We are a nation of cotton bud addicts!

Cotton Buds can push ear wax deep into the canal causing a complete and sudden loss of hearing or a slow gradual blockage.

When we remove ear wax we often remove cotton bud fibres or indeed full cotton buds!

Another problem with cotton bud use is due to absorbency - the cotton is highly absorbent and will rob your ear canal of its natural oils leaving you with a dry itchy ear canal - and then you reach for another cotton bud due to scratch your ear - a real chicken and egg situation!

Our Chair in Clinic is often where our patients confess their love of cotton buds.

⚠️ Public Health Advice: Non-Sterile Alcohol-Free Wipes

Council’s Environmental Health Department is highlighting the risk of infection from certain non-sterile alcohol-free wipes. The UK Health Security Agency and Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency have advised that people check their first aid kits for products linked to an outbreak of Burkholderia stabilis in the UK. They are also reminding people that non-sterile alcohol-free wipes of any type or brand should not be used for first aid, applied on broken or damaged skin and should never be used for cleaning intravenous lines.
