🤲✨ Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in Pregnancy & Postnatal – You’re Not Imagining It!

Tingling fingers? Numbness at night? Weak grip when lifting baby?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is common during pregnancy and in the postnatal period due to hormonal changes and fluid retention.

đź’› The good news? There are ways to ease it.

🌿 Self-Help Techniques

✔️ Avoid sleeping with wrists bent – keep them in a neutral position
✔️ Use a wrist support/splint at night
✔️ Gentle wrist stretches (slow and pain-free)
✔️ Elevate hands when resting
✔️ Take regular breaks from feeding/phone scrolling
✔️ Cold compress for swelling

🌸 How Complementary Therapies Can Help

✨ Reflex Zone Therapy (Reflexology)
Targeted pressure to specific reflex points can support circulation, reduce fluid retention, and encourage the body’s natural healing response.

✨ Massage Therapy
Gentle massage to the hands, wrists, shoulders and neck can ease muscular tension, improve lymphatic drainage, and relieve nerve compression.

✨ Aromatherapy
Pregnancy-safe essential oils can support circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation — helping both physical discomfort and sleep quality.

Carpal tunnel often improves after birth as hormones stabilise — but you don’t have to just “put up with it” in the meantime.

If you’re in the Ballymena, Causeway Coast and Glens or Omagh areas and struggling with hand pain, support is available 🤍

✨ Support Your Body Naturally with Auricular Acupuncture ✨

Did you know your ears hold powerful points that reflect the entire body? 👂🌿

Auricular acupuncture is a gentle, effective therapy that can support women’s health in so many ways — helping your body restore balance and reduce uncomfortable symptoms.

đź’śMay help relieve:
đź’«Headaches & migraines
đź’«Nausea & vomiting
đź’«Musculoskeletal pain (neck, shoulders, back, pelvic tension)
đź’«Stress & anxiety
đź’«Hormonal imbalances
đź’«Sleep disturbances

👂By stimulating specific points on the ear, we activate the nervous system, encourage relaxation, and support the body’s natural healing response. Many women find it especially helpful during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and times of high stress.

✨If you’re navigating hormonal shifts, recovering from birth, or simply feeling overwhelmed, auricular acupuncture offers a calming reset for both body and mind.

🌿 Small points. Big impact.

🤰🌿 Clary Sage in Pregnancy: Powerful, But Not for DIY

Clary sage is known for its ability to support labour and hormonal balance — but in pregnancy, this essential oil must be used with expert care.

🧠 Let’s talk about hyperpolarisation:
This is when nerve cells become less responsive, slowing communication in your body. Clary sage can trigger this effect —problematic when using the wrong dose to encourage contractions and natural birth.

⚠️ Used incorrectly, clary sage can
🔹 Interfere with your nervous system’s natural rhythm
🔹 Disruption of the body’s natural hormone balance
🔹 Overstimulation of contractions

đź’§ This is why professional blending matters.
As a trained aromatherapist, I craft essential oil blends designed for the right trimester, symptoms, and stage of pregnancy — no guesswork, no unnecessary risk.

✨ Your pregnancy journey is sacred — and your safety comes first.

“Pelvic Girdle Pain Relief Starts Here”
If you’re struggling with pelvic girdle pain (PGP) during pregnancy, you’re not alone 🤍 But there are gentle, effective ways to ease the discomfort and support your body.

Here’s how these three tools can help:

✨ Using a birthing ball
Sitting and gently moving on a birthing ball encourages optimal pelvic alignment, improves posture, and reduces pressure through the lower back and hips. Slow circles, rocking, and figure-8 movements can help keep the pelvis mobile and reduce stiffness.

✨ Pelvic balancing exercises
Targeted movements that strengthen and stabilise the muscles around the pelvis (glutes, core, and pelvic floor) help improve symmetry and reduce strain on the sacroiliac joints. When the pelvis is better balanced, pain often decreases and everyday movements feel easier.

✨ Regular reflexology
Pregnancy reflexology supports relaxation, reduces muscle tension, and encourages better circulation. By working reflex points linked to the pelvis, hips, and lower back, reflexology can help calm inflammation and ease discomfort naturally.

đź’śConsistency is key. Small, regular sessions often make a bigger difference than doing too much at once.

If you’re experiencing pelvic girdle pain, contact Barbara for more information on how reflexology, pelvic biomechanics and other complementary therapies can help.
