Hi, my name is Joanne Coleman and I am a certified Body Control Pilates Teacher and hold a level 3 status on the register of Exercise Professionals (REPs). My Story:
I suffered from ongoing and painful postural related neck and shoulder problems and was recommended Pilates by my husband and physio Colin (Colin Coleman, Causeway Physio). I also suffered pelvic pain and pelvic instability after both of my pregnancies; at one point not being able to walk more than 100m before it became too uncomfortable. I have now been doing Pilates for more than 11 years and have overcome each of these problems by strengthening and conditioning my body, core and posture. It has made a huge difference to my life and I cannot recommend Pilates enough for everyone! Why I trained as an instructor:
I was a primary teacher for 10years, but after having my two children (Rachel and Ben) I decided that full time teaching was no longer for me. Knowing the benefit of Pilates on my life, it was always something I was going to continue to do. I loved Pilates and I loved teaching, so in April 2016, I made my first of many trips to London and started my training with Body Control Pilates. Body control was the most comprehensive training I could find that placed equal emphasis on pilates theory, anatomy, practical skills and client assessment. My training was thorough and amongst other things included a long period of supervised teaching from the most qualified teachers before I was considered skilled enough to take my final exam and teach my own clients. I completed my qualification as a Body Control Pilates instructor in January 2017 and am now very excited to be running my own classes in Causeway Physio & Pilates! Our Pilates studio is upstairs in Causeway Physio & Pilates, Sperrin Business Park, Coleraine. Sperrin Business park is situated off the Ballycastle Road, behind Somerset Furniture and Screwfix. Types of Classes available:
• Studio Matwork & Reformer 6-7 week blocks. Booking into a block ensures a gradual progression and build of endurance, a better option if possible.
• 1-2-1s or small private studio groups
• Move It - Over 50s Exercise Class, circuits based & Physio led

✨️ Benefits Short & Long Term ✨️

This is a famous quote people often use to talk about progress in pilates.

Pilates is a practice of learning in layers, where each session builds on the one before it. You start by understanding the foundations—breath, alignment, and control—and then gradually add strength, mobility, and precision. Rather than rushing to advanced movements, Pilates emphasises mastering the basics so your body can move more efficiently and safely.

Over time, these layers come together, creating a strong, balanced body and a deeper awareness of how you move, both in the studio and in everyday life. You will feel better after 1 or 2 classes... but the real change comes with patience & persistence: Your body will thank you.

I'm still learning and developing my understanding of Pilates in my ever changing body & circumstances. It's a journey that I can whole-heartedly recommend & you are very welcome to join us.

🤷‍♀️ Reformer Vs Mat 🤷‍♂️ WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

There is no denying that BOTH Matwork and Reformer Pilates are very popular and have huge benefits for our bodies. They BOTH follow the same core principles—control, alignment, breath, and strength—BUT THEY USE DIFFERENT TOOLS..

• Mat Pilates is performed on the floor using your body weight for resistance & small props to add variety and challenge. It’s simple, accessible, and excellent for building core strength, body awareness, and control anywhere.

• Reformer Pilates uses a specialised machine with springs and a moving carriage to add adjustable resistance and support. This allows for greater variety, precision, and adaptability, making it great for both gentle assistance and challenging strength work.
