A Testimonial From Jenny - Why Work In Care? πŸ“’ πŸ’œ

"I chose care work as I wanted a change in my career, after working in childcare for 20 years.
If you are thinking of a change in career than take the step. I did and choose Universal Care Services to start my new career, and work in people's home. Helping with personal care, medication, cleaning commodes, social care, going on a bus, to have a cup of tea and a wonder, cleaning, cooking, washing, gardening anything that a person needs, they are all unique.

I have loved working in care . I have met so many lovely people, getting to know all about them and them getting to know me. It's always a challenge when you meet someone for the first time and breaking the ice. Once done its a memory that will stay with you.

It's amazing going the extra mile, making them feel special if only for a few moments in their day, it stays with them too. Working Christmas Day was special, seeing service users who hadn't had a visit all day or had just come home from visiting family and relaying their stories. Having to dial 999 was scary and rewarding too when you know you have done the right thing getting them the help needed."

Jen has just completed 1 year with Universal Care Services and is a real asset to our team in Hinckley.

Mental Health First Aiders - World Well Being Week πŸ’œ 🌍

Emma is our Registered manager for Ipswich, as well as on of our new mental health first aiders. In order to celebrate world well being week, we asked Emma some questions regarding her new role!

When did you become a mental health first aider?
"I completed my mental health first aid training on 27th September 2024"

What made you want to take on this role?
"I wanted to become a mental health first aider, because I feel I have a good listening ear, I sympathize with others and always want the best for everyone. I wear my heart on my sleeve, and would do anything to make someone else’s life that bit easier for them. I have been one of those who people who have struggled mentally and speaking out helped me a lot."

What is one key take away you took from the training you received to become a mental health first aider?
"That there are so many support networks and charities out their in the community to help anyone who is struggling."

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who wants to reach out but are abit uncertain?
"If someone needed some support but was unsure I would remind them that is it ok to not be ok, and just sometimes just a short conversation about anything could make them feel a little better. It’s always the first step which is the hardest."

What is one way you unwind after a stressful week?
"I unwind after a stressful week, by having a glass of wine, nice takeout and spending time with my family."

You can contact Emma on - Emma.hamblet@universalcareservices.co.uk if you need someone to talk to!

Introducing 'World Well Being Week 2025' 🌍

June 24th to June 30th is World well being week. Now in its 5th year, we use this day to celebrate and to thank the health workers and carers who have supported us tirelessly, whilst also spotlighting the growing number of practitioners, charities and social enterprises, who specialise in their own areas of wellbeing.

Use this week to find a new way to look after your well being, or to focus on the things you are doing currently for yourself.

Hey there, sunshine lovers! β˜€οΈ As we dive into the warm weather, let's remember to take care of ourselves while out working. Here are some quick tips:

1. Stay Hydrated: Keep a water bottle handy. It's your best friend in this weather. 🚰

2. Sunscreen is a Must: Don't forget to apply a good SPF sunscreen before stepping out. Your skin will thank you. 🧴

3. Take Breaks: If you're out in the sun, take regular breaks in the shade. Your body needs time to cool down. 🌳

4. Eat Light: Heavy meals can make you feel sluggish in the heat. Opt for fresh fruits and salads instead. πŸ₯—

Remember, summer is a time for fun and relaxation. Let's enjoy it safely! 😎
