Hands-on treatment does not fix injuries! This does not mean there isn’t a place for it in your rehab journey.

Hands-on treatment can be used as a fantastic form of pain relief, promote blood flow and aiding in a person's recovery.

Ultimately, it isn’t hands-on treatment that “fixes” the problem that you have as for the majority of soft tissue injuries, there are two key components when it comes to recovery -
1. Exercise-based rehabilitation.
2. Time.

The hands-on treatment that we provide alongside this is a fantastic tool and will aid your recovery.

If you visit a therapist who proclaims they can “fix” you with the touch of their hands, please run a mile!

If what you’re really after is good, honest advice on how to recover from your injury, get in touch with us.

Massages aren’t just a luxury—they’re a powerful tool for physical and mental health. Here’s why we need massages:
✅ 1. Relieves Muscle Tension and Pain
• Massage reduces knots, tightness, and soreness by improving blood flow to the muscles.
• Helps with chronic pain (like back, shoulder, or neck pain) and recovery from workouts or injuries.
🧠 2. Reduces Stress and Anxiety
• Massage decreases cortisol (the stress hormone) and increases serotonin and dopamine, which promote relaxation and a sense of well-being.
• Even one session can lead to significant mental calm.
😴 3. Improves Sleep Quality
• By relaxing the nervous system and easing muscle tension, massages help you fall asleep faster and sleep more deeply.
🧬 4. Boosts Circulation and Lymphatic Flow
• Helps your body move blood and lymph more efficiently, which:
• Delivers oxygen and nutrients to tissues
• Supports detoxification
• Reduces swelling and fluid retention
🦴 5. Supports Joint Flexibility and Mobility
• Loosens up stiff joints and improves range of motion.
• Especially helpful for people with arthritis, injuries, or postural imbalances.
🧘 6. Enhances Mind-Body Connection
• Massage encourages you to become more aware of your body and breath—similar to meditation.
• Great for those practicing mindfulness or managing emotional trauma stored in the body.
🛡️ 7. Strengthens the Immune System
• Regular massages may enhance immune function by reducing stress and improving lymph flow (which carries immune cells).
🩺 8. Helps With Medical Conditions
Massage is often used as part of treatment for:
• Migraines
• TMJ (jaw tension)
• Fibromyalgia
• Post-surgery recovery
• Digestive issues
• Sciatica

What is Rehabilitation (also referred to as rehab)?

Rehabilitation refers to the restoration of function and activity following an illness or injury. It should include aspects such as hands-on therapy, exercise, education and advice. The degree of each will vary from one person to another depending on the issue or incident.

Why do I need to do it?

The correct balance of hands-on (therapist based) and hands-off (self-manage) therapy will vary from one person to another with their not being a 'one size fitting all' plan. Getting professional rehabilitation will not only improve the rate at which you get better, but also improve your prognosis (how much better you will get) and reduce the risk of having longer-term issues.

Is it worth the money?

That is a personal opinion and choice. If you have a good knowledge and understanding, you can quite possibly 'self-rehab'; but ask yourself - If I get advice from a professional, will I get a better result.

Why is Craven Complete different from other rehabilitation providers?

At Craven complete, we treat all clients as individuals. Everyone's needs are different. We will give you an honest opinion on what you need, how much it may cost; but most of all, give you a level of ownership. What this means is that you will have an active role in how and how-fast you get better. The harder you work, the better the result; and we will teach you how to do this.

Finally, everyone's 'end-point' is different. For some people, it may be getting good enough to do their own shopping whilst for others, it may be to be fit enough to get back into a sports team. Everyone is unique but we will give you an honest opinion on what will be required.

For more information - contact us - we will discuss your needs with you before you commit to an appointment.

Do you suffer from HIP pain?

There are many reasons why you may have hip pain, which ranges from something very simple (an imbalance of the soft tissues around the joint) right up to a tear or a little damage to these tissues.

Those who play sports (for example, football, rugby or golf) are at risk of developing hip pain, which can be quite debilitating.

Symptoms can include:

- Pain in the hip or groin
- Stiffness or limited movement in the hip joint
- A clicking or locking sensation

Whilst simple imbalance issues can be cured with soft tissue treatment and exercise, more serious ones may require referring on. Either way, these should not stop you from doing what you love.

Have an issue you would like to discuss or would like some advice? Drop us a message or give us a call.

Key Benefits of Massage for Runners

1. Enhanced Recovery: Increases blood flow to muscles, aiding in the removal of metabolic waste products like lactic acid, which reduces soreness.

2. Injury Prevention: Regular, specialized massages (e.g., deep tissue, Active Release Technique) address tightness and scar tissue before they cause injury.

3. Improved Flexibility & Performance: Relieves muscle tension, enhancing flexibility and joint range of motion, which results in better running mechanics.

4. Reduced Muscle Tension: Targets tight areas caused by the repetitive motion of running.

5. Psychological Benefits: Helps runners relax, reduces stress, and boosts confidence, especially during intense training cycles

Sports massage is designed to maximise the functionality of the muscles.

It helps not only to prepare for intense loads, but also to minimise possible muscle damage and reduce the risk of sports injuries.

Professional athletes simply need it as preparation for the competition involves excessively high loads at the limit of possibilities. Without proper recovery, this can lead to negative consequences. Regular massage becomes an indispensable part of the training process.

Welcome to Craven Complete Physio & Rehab

We are Barry and Lyndsay Craven, a husband and wife team who are passionate about sports fitness and helping others. Over many years we have developed Craven Complete Physio and Rehab to provide our clients with a full range of services all under one roof!

Our aim is to provide a complete assessment and diagnosis before the start of any physio treatment. This plan will aim to take an individual from the point of injury back to full activity. Our assessments can be provided in the clinic or within your home, with treatment in situ or extending into our gym, pool and the greater outdoors.

All physiotherapy is provided by an experienced clinician, who has worked in a variety of medical sectors. Should your medical requirements need additional intervention, you will be referred on as a matter of course.
