The family of an 89-year-old woman who died following a fatal road traffic collision in Llandudno have paid tribute to her.

Daphne Stallard died on Monday, September 1 following a collision on Brookes Street.

Her family have issued the following tribute:

Our Mum, Daphne was a bright shining light of love at the centre of our family. She was a caring Mam-gu who was always full of concern and pride for her children and her grown-up grandchildren. A woman of faith who gave so much of her time to looking after others, she has always been an active volunteer at church. Daphne was a member of many community groups and spent much time visiting and writing to anyone she thought might appreciate support. She cared for people of all ages and especially enjoyed helping with small children at the church sunday school, and visiting “the elderly” who often included those younger than herself!

She was incredibly hard-working, her children remember her juggling being a full-time mother, helping at church and teaching by correspondence-course late into the night when they were small. She always had a very strong work ethic and this attitude continued even into her retirement. By training Daphne was a scientist. She studied at Cambridge and taught in a number of high schools throughout her working life. She was head of chemistry at a prestigious girls’ school in Birmingham.

Daphne was always devoted to her husband the Rev’d Charles Stallard who sadly died five years ago. They were both very fit and celebrated Daphne‘s 80th birthday by climbing Snowdon together. Daphne kept active in her later years and even recently was often out walking around town as well as attending Tai Chi classes. She would have celebrated her 90th birthday this month. Her sudden loss has come as such a shock to us all. It is a comfort to us that we believe that she is re-united now with her beloved Charles, and both are safe in God’s care.

- Mary, Andrew and John Stallard. Daphne’s children.

The investigation to establish the cause of the collision is underway, and anybody who may have been in the vicinity of Brookes Street around the time of the collision and who may have information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact officers at the Serious Collision Investigation Unit via the website or by calling 101, quoting reference number 25000723615.

The man who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has since been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

A driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and several others were stopped for offences including driving whilst using a mobile phone and driving without a seatbelt during a road safety operation in Flint yesterday (Thursday).

The road safety checks - which included roadside eyesight tests, were carried out by ourselves as part of our commitment in keeping the roads safe for all.

The operation also resulted in drivers being dealt with for a variety of offences including defective tyres, insecure load, driving without a licence and a driver who was issued a ticket after a child was found not to be in a car seat. Two drivers also failed the roadside eyesight test.

We make no apologies in trying to reduce serious and fatal collisions in line with road safety initiatives. Further operations will be carried out over the next few weeks as we are committed to making the roads of north Wales as safe as possible for everyone 💙

The family of a motorcyclist who died following a road traffic collision in Bwlchgwyn, Wrexham on Sunday, August 24th have paid tribute to him.

Pawel Dlugosz was 49 years-old and lived in the St Helens area.

His family have issued the following:

"As Paweł’s wife and daughter, our hearts are truly broken beyond words. He was the light of our lives, a devoted husband and an extraordinary father who gave us endless love, laughter, and strength. To us, he was everything. To everyone who knew him, he was the man who always looked out for others, who never hesitated to help, and who made people feel safe and cared for.

Paweł loved life in all its colours. He felt most at peace in nature, whether it was camping under the stars, hiking new trails, or riding his beloved motorcycles. He filled our days with music and joy. That was who he was – a man who carried love and laughter everywhere he went.

Losing him so suddenly has left us shattered in ways we cannot describe. You lived your life like you rode your bike, free, fearless, and full of passion. Losing you this way is a pain we can’t put into words, but there is comfort in knowing you left this world doing what you loved most. Every roar of an engine, every stretch of open road, will always remind us of you. You were our hero, our guide, and our greatest adventure.

The investigation into what happened is still ongoing, and we do not yet know exactly how everything unfolded. We kindly and urgently ask that if anyone witnessed the incident and has not yet come forward to the police, please do so. Any information could help us find answers in this devastating time.

We would also like to express our deepest thanks to everyone, and especially to those who were there with him in his final moments. To the pedestrians who stopped and tried CPR, and to his fellow riders who helped that day – you all tried your very best, and we will never forget that. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Ride free now, Dad. Until we meet again."
