A man has been jailed following a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a child.

The court heard how 18-year-old Kaylem Longhurst, was riding the motorcycle when he struck the child, causing serious injuries, before fleeing the scene.

Following a thorough investigation, Longhurst, of Morgan Walk, Nantwich, was identified and admitted dangerous driving.

He was also convicted by a jury at Mold Crown Court in February of conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

Members of Longhurst’s family were also found guilty, including his mother, Terry Follows, 43, of Clwyd Street, Shotton, who was convicted of perverting the course of justice, and 39-year-old Shane Hunt, of Clwyd Street, Shotton, who was also found guilty of the same offence.

At Mold Crown Court today, 14 April, Longhurst was jailed for 14 months.

Fellows was sentenced to 26 months in custody and Hunt was jailed for 21 months.

Cara Haran, 25, of Lucas Avenue, York, and who is Longhurst’s older sister, had already pleaded guilty for her part in the conspiracy. She was sentenced to nine months in prison.

🚛 An unmarked HGV was back out on the roads of North Wales last week as part of Op Tramline.

From the elevated vantage point of the cab, specially trained officers were able to clearly observe driver behaviour. Offences were captured on camera and relayed to colleagues in marked police vehicles, who then stopped the drivers to take appropriate action.

Officers identified nearly 50 offences including motorists not wearing seatbelts, insecure loads and HGV drivers watching films on their phones whilst driving.

One driver was seen to have their foot on the dashboard whilst watching a film on their phone, before veering in front of officers in the unmarked HGV.

Improving road safety remains a top priority for us. The volume of offences identified during this operation underlines the continued need for proactive enforcement activity of this kind.

🚛 Roedd cerbyd HGV heb ei farcio yn ôl ar ffyrdd Gogledd Cymru yr wythnos diwethaf fel rhan o Ymgyrch Tramline.

O safbwynt uchel y cab, roedd swyddogion wedi'u hyfforddi'n arbennig yn gallu arsylwi ymddygiad gyrwyr yn glir. Cafodd troseddau eu dal ar gamera a'u trosglwyddo i gydweithwyr mewn cerbydau heddlu wedi'u marcio, a stopiwyd y gyrwyr a'u dirwyo.

Nododd swyddogion bron i 50 o droseddau gan gynnwys modurwyr heb wregysau diogelwch, llwythi heb eu clymu'n ddiogel a gyrwyr HGV yn gwylio ffilmiau ar eu ffonau wrth yrru.

Gwelwyd un gyrrwr â'i droed ar y dashfwrdd yn gwylio ffilm ar eu ffôn, cyn iddo wyro o flaen swyddogion yn yr HGV heb ei farcio.

Mae gwella diogelwch ar y ffyrdd yn parhau i fod yn brif flaenoriaeth i ni. Mae nifer y troseddau a nodwyd yn ystod yr ymgyrch hon yn tanlinellu'r angen parhaus am weithgarwch gorfodi rhagweithiol o'r math hwn.

We received several reports regarding the manner of driving and the presentation of the driver of this vehicle in the HGC Dinbych Arfordirol ac Abergele / NWP Denbighshire Coastal and Abergele area this morning.

The vehicle was located and stopped in Rhuddlan. It was seized for having no driving licence or insurance. Whilst this was taking place, we received a report from the owner of the vehicle stating that their vehicle had been stolen this morning from outside their home address.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of aggravated unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle, theft, driving other than accordance with a driving licence, driving without insurance and drug driving. He remains in police custody 🚔🔐

Police custody seems to be a familiar setting for this male, he was arrested last night for exactly the same offences in a different area of the force.

The vehicle will now be reunited with its owner 😇 We thank the members of the public who reported this vehicle to us, we will not tolerate this kind of behaviour on our roads.
