What lovely weather we are having. So the doors are open and we are in the garden. Hats on, sun cream on, cool drinks given. Conversation flowing. Natural light, fresh air, perfect!

We had a newcomer to our growing list of entertainers visit this afternoon. James Vincent brought his piano along and we sang and danced for the whole hour! From Abba to Glen Campbell and even the song, 'I am the music man'. Certainly got our exercise in today! It's also great when loved ones get up for a dance with their husbands and wives, bringing special moments alive. It was a fun session combining music and movement together, laughter and lively songs to dance to. A resident said, I know the song but can't remember the words.
James, when can you visit again!

It's National Telephone Day today and the day commemorates Alexander Graham Bell's first successful phone call in 1876.
Out of my reminiscing box came the old classic rotary phone. We haven't seen one of these for a long time! Our residents were remembering when they had a similar one growing up. Listening to that specific sound of the dial slowly going around with your finger in the slot, then let go and it whizzes back again. Especially when you had to call the 999 emergency number, it was soooo slow!
Who would you be ringing? A friend to go out with on a Saturday night?
Just the feel of the phone, heavy and solid compared to the lightweight mobiles we use today. Old technology that was state of the art 'back then' It was a statement in your living room. And we all had different colours. Some residents remember having a pale blue, another had a red one. But the sound remained the same. That specific forgotten ringing sound. We found it on you tube and how real it sounded. Took us back. It certainly got everybody talking! Even our staff had stories and some couldn't work out quite what to do, but they've seen them in old films!
Did you know the first greeting was not 'hello' but 'ahoy hoy' a nautical greeting! A great reminiscing session. 📱 ☎️ 📞

And we had a visitor, St George! 'He' arrived to give out something very British. Scones with strawberry jam and proper Cornish clotted cream 😋 Strawberries were also on the menu along with strawberry and clotted cream yoghurt for our residents who are on soft diets. And plenty to go around for everyone!
Bringing residents together through patriotism, engaging activities like themed afternoon teas, live musical performances, and art.
