There's a lot to love here at the moment. Beautiful grasses and wildflowers everywhere. We seem to have a resident hare too, although it hasn't posed for a photo yet!

Check out this ABSOLUTE STUNNER! You have to agree it's a beauty. But what is it?

I'm sure a lot of you know, but for those who don't, it is the humble hawthorn. It's in full flower right now and is absolutely everywhere. Along roadsides and hedgerows....its difficult to go outside without seeing it.

When you next see one take a moment to look at it close up and appreciate how lovely it is.

An old saying says "Ne'er cast a clout till May be out". This translates to "Don't shed your (winter) clothing until the hawthorn has blossomed".

Last bit of interesting (or useless depending on your opinion) information. Hawthorn and blackthorn (aka sloe berries that you flavour your gin with) look very similar. So how do you tell the difference? Answer is that blackthorn produces flowers before leaves. Hawthorn the opposite.

Anyhoo....who knew I could waffle so much about a hawthorn.

Love this photo that Dead Good Legacies have shared which has gone a bit viral. I'm sharing it as inspiration!

We have a profile on Unsplash (@ deadgood) that currently hosts 14 copyright-free images of modern, family-led, eco-friendly funerals, taken by
at our styled photoshoots.

Two months ago, I uploaded 4 images from our October shoot.

I got a message today to say that this particular image of our willow coffin topped with jars of sustainable handpicked flowers from .barn has been downloaded over 1000 times in 60 days.

THIS FEELS GREAT!

Also, if you live in the UK and want to know where to get sustainable funeral flowers from, please check out the directory to find an eco-florist near you.

LOVE YOU BYE

Seven Penny Meadow incorporating GO AS YOU PLEASE

Our own natural burial ground, independently owned and run by GO AS YOU PLEASE https://www.facebook.com/goasyoupleasefunerals

Established in 2001, our natural burial ground, Seven Penny Meadow, is located in an idyllic hilltop position with breath-taking views across the Derwent valley; close to Hamsterley Mill and Medomsley in County Durham.

Natural burial is a term used to describe the burial of the deceased in an area which creates new habitats for wildlife (flora and fauna) or preserves existing habitats. At a time when municipal and church cemeteries are running out of space and there are environmental concerns over cremations; natural burials offer an alternative which is environmentally friendly, whilst having the long-term benefits of giving back to nature and creating public green spaces.
