Established in 2001, our natural burial ground, Seven Penny Meadow, is located in an idyllic hilltop position with breath-taking views across the Derwent valley; close to Hamsterley Mill and Medomsley in County Durham.
Natural burial is a term used to describe the burial of the deceased in an area which creates new habitats for wildlife (flora and fauna) or preserves existing habitats. At a time when municipal and church cemeteries are running out of space and there are environmental concerns over cremations; natural burials offer an alternative which is environmentally friendly, whilst having the long-term benefits of giving back to nature and creating public green spaces.
Council cemeteries are bound by rules and restrictions. At Seven Penny Meadow the rules are different. We encourage freedom and imagination, and aim to accommodate all our customer’s needs.
Council Burials are 9am -4pm. OURS ARE 24/7
You attend a council burial, at ours you participate!
Time is restricted at a council burial. At ours, stay as long as you wish and spend time together with food, drinks, music and memories.
