❓Frequently asked questions about our new triage system❓

Are the reception team dealing with the online forms?
No. We have two duty doctors who triage the requests each day. They will use their clinical judgement and decide what is urgent for today or routine. We hope this will give you the confidence that the care you receive will be allocated to the right person, at the right time, each time you make a consultation request.

How long will I be waiting for an appointment?
Previously patients could be waiting up to 6 weeks for an appointment. With our new system all face to face and telephone call appointments are within 2 weeks.

Is the system appropriate for urgent requests?
Yes it is. All triage requests are viewed when received and urgent requests are actioned by the duty doctor. They may decide that the request is less urgent based on their clinical guidance, and you will be contacted accordingly. There is also a pop up before you fill in the form to confirm your problem is not an emergency with suggestions of signs / symptoms that mean you should call 999.

I have not got access to the internet, am I unable to book an appointment?
This system will free up the telephone lines for those who are unable to complete a request electronically. Our Reception staff will always complete a triage form for you if you or someone else are unable to do so but you will need to call the surgery or come to the reception desk to do this.

Will I have to wait 48 hours to be contacted?
The form does state that you will be contacted in 48 hours which may be the case in very busy periods. However, our aim is to respond to all requests submitted that same day. If the duty GP triages your request and decides it is urgent you will always be contacted on that day.

You can access the new form on our website. It is very simple to fill out so please give it a go if you need to contact us. Although the character count is limited on the form, please try to give as much specific and concise information as possible.

You do not need a username or password. Our on-call doctor will triage all requests. If your issue is urgent we will aim for a GP or Nurse Practitioner to see you the same day.

For routine issues we will aim to see people typically within a week, but at busier times of the year this could be longer. We aim for this never to go beyond 2 weeks.

If you do not have access to the internet or find it difficult to use a computer or smartphone you can still call reception and the receptionist will either help you fill in the form or if necessary, can fill it in for you.
