Today is Nollaig na mBan.
Women's Christmas, or Little Christmas, is a beautiful Irish tradition celebrated on January 6th (the Feast of the Epiphany).
Historically, this was the ONE day when Irish women stopped doing all the work. They'd gather together, enjoy each other's company, maybe have a few drinks, and let the men handle everything for once.
It honoured the fact that women had been carrying Christmas - the cooking, cleaning, organizing, emotional labour, and endless giving - while everyone else enjoyed it.
Sound familiar? π
Things may have changed, but women are STILL doing a lot of the invisible work. Still running on empty. Still putting everyone else first.
So today, if you can, take a wee while to honour this tradition:
π Rest without guilt
π Gather with your women
π Do something just for YOU
π Let someone else handle it
You've given enough. Today, receive.
Happy Women's Christmas to every woman reading this.
How are you honouring yourself today?
