Charlotte Straker House

Charlotte Straker House The Charlotte Straker Project is a 32 bedded care home in Corbridge. We offer high quality residential and nursing care for those over 65.

We also offer a free of charge, respite care room for short term respite breaks funded by charitable donations. The Charlotte Straker Project is a 32 bed charitable care home and offers residential, nursing and respite care to the elderly and frail. As a not for profit care home any surplus profit is reinvested back into the organisation for the benefit of our residents. We concentrate on supporti

ng our residents and fundraising for necessary equipment, activities and resources. We also support some of our local authority residents by funding the fee shortfall - the difference between the amount the local authority pays for care and the actual cost of care. We also offer 8 supported living bungalows in our grounds. Our dedicated, well trained team ensure that individuals living in this well-equipped and comfortable accommodation receive attention all day, every day which enhances quality of life for the elderly frail in our care. Charlotte Straker House provides a “home for life” and we care for residents from the moment they arrive and for the rest of their lives, giving security to both residents and their families.

Music, laughter, and plenty of singing filled our dining room recently as we welcomed Richard and Roly back to Charlotte Straker House for another wonderful afternoon of entertainment 🎶

Residents enjoyed an afternoon of familiar favourites, sing-alongs, and lots of toe-tapping moments, with smiles all around throughout the performance. It was especially lovely to see everyone joining in, including our respite resident Graeme, who treated us to a little Elvis performance of his own! The room was also full of voices during a spirited sing-along to The Blaydon Races 🎤

Music always has a wonderful way of bringing people together, creating special moments and encouraging connection across the home.

A huge thank you to Richard and Roly for another fantastic visit, we always look forward to welcoming you back!

Crochet Raffle Update: Over £1,000 Raised So Far! 🧶💙

We are absolutely delighted to share that the beautiful handmade crochet blanket created by Bex Campin in memory of her Nanny, Mary, has now helped raise more than £1,000 for The Charlotte Straker Project with the raffle still running until the end of June!✨

This very special blanket was lovingly created in celebration of Mary’s life and the shared love of crochet she enjoyed with Bex over the years. Since launching the fundraiser, the response from our community has been truly incredible, and we are so grateful to everyone who has supported the raffle so far.

If you would like to see the blanket in person, it will be on display at our upcoming Charlotte Straker House Fete and also at the Textile & Art Exhibition at St Andrew’s Church. Every raffle entry helps support enriching activities, experiences, and opportunities for our residents, making a real difference within our home and community.

Remembering David Thompson 💙

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of David Thompson, a long-standing volunteer and dedicated supporter of The Charlotte Straker Project.

David gave 17 years of dedicated voluntary service through the Charlotte Straker Fundraising Committee, helping to shape and support the organisation in countless ways. From fundraising challenges and community events to helping establish initiatives such as the Development Fund and Friends programme, his contribution leaves a lasting legacy.

Known for his kindness, humour, wisdom and unwavering commitment, David was a valued friend to many connected with Charlotte Straker House and the wider community.

We are deeply grateful for the time, care and support he gave over so many years, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

One Week On… and What an Incredible Achievement! 🥾✨

It has now been a week since our Charlotte Straker House team completed their 20km Hadrian’s Wall challenge, and we are so proud of everyone who took part.

Thanks to the amazing generosity and support of our community, they have now raised more than £1,900 for our Development Fund and the total is still climbing! 💙

The challenge was a fantastic group effort and a wonderful example of our staff team coming together to support Charlotte Straker House.

Every donation will help us continue developing the facilities and experiences available for our residents, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported the challenge through donations, encouragement and sharing the fundraiser.

A huge well done to the whole team for completing such an amazing achievement, and thank you again to everyone who helped make it possible.🌟

Our latest axe throwing session at Charlotte Straker House was another huge hit, with residents enjoying an afternoon full of fun, determination, and plenty of cheering from the sidelines.

There were some impressive throws on display as everyone tested their aim and technique, with lots of encouragement shared throughout the session. Activities like these are a wonderful way to build confidence, keep active, and bring everyone together for something a little different.

A huge thank you to our fantastic volunteers David, Louise and Avril for helping make the afternoon such a success and keeping the competition flowing smoothly 💙
