Charlotte Straker House

Charlotte Straker House The Charlotte Straker Project is a 32 bedded care home in Corbridge. We offer high quality residential and nursing care for those over 65.

We also offer a free of charge, respite care room for short term respite breaks funded by charitable donations. The Charlotte Straker Project is a 32 bed charitable care home and offers residential, nursing and respite care to the elderly and frail. As a not for profit care home any surplus profit is reinvested back into the organisation for the benefit of our residents. We concentrate on supporti

ng our residents and fundraising for necessary equipment, activities and resources. We also support some of our local authority residents by funding the fee shortfall - the difference between the amount the local authority pays for care and the actual cost of care. We also offer 8 supported living bungalows in our grounds. Our dedicated, well trained team ensure that individuals living in this well-equipped and comfortable accommodation receive attention all day, every day which enhances quality of life for the elderly frail in our care. Charlotte Straker House provides a “home for life” and we care for residents from the moment they arrive and for the rest of their lives, giving security to both residents and their families.

Our GNR Team: Running in memory of Jim Tait 💙

We’re so proud of Zoe, who is running the Great North Run in loving memory of her grandad Jim Tait, a former resident at Charlotte Straker House.

Zoe explained: “I want to give something back to say thank you. Supporting the home means more families like ours can continue to receive the same care and support.”

Every step Zoe takes honours her grandad and helps others receive the same vital support in later life. If you would like to get involved and sponsor Zoe, please visit the link below.

Celebrating 40 Years of Care 🌟

Last week, we had the absolute pleasure of celebrating a career milestone for a member of our team who has dedicated an incredible 40 years to caring for others. 💙

For 13 of those years, Karen has been right here with us at Charlotte Straker House — bringing warmth, fun, and an endless amount of heart to everything she does.

From caring for classmates at just 5 years old to working every Christmas Day by choice, Karen’s commitment has never wavered. Her dedication has touched so many lives along the way. 💐

We shared stories and smiles as we presented her with flowers and a heartfelt thank you for everything she’s done. Thank you, Karen!

A Big Thank You to Tynedale Rotary! 🥂🍫

We were delighted to finally catch up with Adrian from the Tynedale Rotary Club to mark the success of the Wine & Chocolate Quiz Night held back in March at Corbridge Parish Hall.

The evening was full of fun with wine and chocolate tasting, a lively quiz, tasty nibbles, and a brilliant community spirit, all in support of the Charlotte Straker Project.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who came along, donated, and joined in, the event was a great success. The funds raised are helping us continue our work supporting residents and our local community.

A huge thank you again to the Rotary Club for organising such a fantastic night and for choosing to support us!💙

Celebrating Allison’s Retirement!💐

We recently said a fond farewell to our amazing Domestic Assistant, Allison, as she begins her well-earned retirement.

Allison has been a key part of the Charlotte Straker House team, not only keeping things spotless, but always going the extra mile to support our fundraising efforts. From crafting beautiful hampers to getting stuck into our recent cricket match (with her husband too!), her dedication and enthusiasm have meant so much.💙

She’ll be a huge miss, but we’re thrilled to know she’ll be back to support us in the future. Thank you, Allison, for everything and enjoy this next chapter!

Gone Fishing! 🎣

Our residents recently enjoyed a fantastic day out by the water, trying their hand at fishing and reeling in a few catches too! 🐟

It was a lovely chance to spend time together, enjoy the fresh air, and share a few laughs (and a bit of healthy competition!). Whether they caught something or not, everyone came home smiling.

One of our residents, Christine, shared that she had never been fishing before, but it was something her husband and son often enjoyed. Meanwhile, George had such a great time he said, "I can't wait to see what we do next!"

Big thanks to the team who made it happen. A brilliant day all round! 🌤️💙

Wishing Adrienne a Happy Retirement! 🌼

Last week we said goodbye (for now!) to our wonderful Activities Coordinator, Adrienne, who has retired after a year with us at Charlotte Straker House.

Adrienne brought such creativity and energy to the role, from lively horse racing afternoons to thoughtful sensory quizzes, she always found ways to bring joy to our residents.

We’ll miss her around the home, but we’re so pleased she plans to pop back now and then, especially to help with her much-loved seasonal displays!🌸

Enjoy your campervan travels, Adrienne - you’ve more than earned the adventure. Thank you for everything!

Tail wags and happy hearts all around!🐶

We were delighted to welcome back Monty the therapy dog last week, visiting as part of Wag and Company. Monty made his way around the home, stopping for a cuddle, a paw shake, and lots of strokes from our residents — and every room he entered lit up!

The positive impact of pet therapy is truly remarkable. Monty brings comfort, calm, and a sense of companionship that stays long after his visit ends. For many of our residents, he’s a familiar and much-loved friend.

A huge thank you to Wag & Co and Monty’s handler for making these visits possible. We already can’t wait for the next one!

A visitor with an eye for detail!📷

Local photographer Ian Wylie joined us recently to capture life at Charlotte Straker House. His lens turned to our communal spaces, from the sunny dining room to our relaxing lounges, and the results are absolutely beautiful.

These new photos reflect the homely, welcoming environment we strive to create every day. Comfortable, warm, and filled with character. Our communal areas are more than just rooms, they’re spaces where friendships flourish and memories are made.

A huge thank you to Ian for capturing the spirit of our home so perfectly. We can’t wait to share more of his stunning images on our website and brochures soon!💙

Sunshine, sea air, and plenty of smiles!

Last week, a group of our residents enjoyed a sunny day out with a trip to Blyth Beach. It was the perfect summer outing with strolls along the promenade, watching the waves roll in, and of course, a delicious portion of fish and chips!🍟🐟.

There was lots of laughter and even some ice creams to top it all off. Trips like this are more than just a day out , they create memories, spark conversations, and bring joy to everyone involved.

Thank you to our activities team and the volunteers who helped make the day such a smooth and special experience.

Our GNR Team: Meet Kadene & Sarah!

We’re thrilled to announce that local hair stylist Kadene from 'Hair by Kadene' based at The Independent Salon Corbridge will be running the 2025 Great North Run, and she won’t be doing it alone! Kadene will be joined by her close friend Sarah, and together they’re taking on their first ever half marathon to raise funds for the Charlotte Straker Project. 🏃

Both were inspired to support us after spending time with our residents — especially Kadene, who regularly visits the home for hair appointments and saw firsthand the impact of our work.

This amazing duo are training hard, motivated by the difference they know their fundraising will make to our home and the people we support. Let’s cheer them on as Team Charlotte Straker and show them our full support! 🙌

A Musical Treat in the Dining Room!🎤

We were delighted to welcome local performer Kev Roberts recently, who brought the dining room to life with favourite hits from across the decades including a cover of Country Roads!

Residents clapped, sang along, and enjoyed the music so much that the afternoon lasted longer than planned!

Resident George summed it up perfectly “It was a lovely afternoon and great to hear some familiar songs from the past that I’d forgotten about!”

Thank you, Kev, for visiting us. Music really does bring people together.💙
