The Charlotte Straker Project is a 32 bedded care home in Corbridge. We offer high quality residential and nursing care for those over 65.

We also offer a free of charge, respite care room for short term respite breaks funded by charitable donations. The Charlotte Straker Project is a 32 bed charitable care home and offers residential, nursing and respite care to the elderly and frail. As a not for profit care home any surplus profit is reinvested back into the organisation for the benefit of our residents. We concentrate on supporting our residents and fundraising for necessary equipment, activities and resources. We also support some of our local authority residents by funding the fee shortfall - the difference between the amount the local authority pays for care and the actual cost of care. We also offer 8 supported living bungalows in our grounds. Our dedicated, well trained team ensure that individuals living in this well-equipped and comfortable accommodation receive attention all day, every day which enhances quality of life for the elderly frail in our care. Charlotte Straker House provides a “home for life” and we care for residents from the moment they arrive and for the rest of their lives, giving security to both residents and their families.

Winter Wonders at Charlotte Straker House! ❄️

Brrr… temperatures have dropped this past week, and we’ve had some icy spells! We were amazed to see our pear fountain and pond frozen early this week 🧊✨

During cold spells, please use caution when on site. Although every effort is made to ensure paths are gritted, safety is always our priority for residents and visitors.

Looking back on December, we were delighted to welcome Margaret’s family, who treated our residents and staff to a beautiful performance of Christmas carols in the dining room. 🎶🎄

Their singing really helped get everyone into the Christmas spirit, filling the room with festive cheer and creating a lovely atmosphere for all to enjoy. Residents and staff gathered to watch, smiling along to the familiar tunes as we counted down to the big day. It’s always so special when families get involved and share their talents with our home, helping to create memorable moments for everyone.

A huge thank you to Margaret’s family for such a thoughtful and heart-warming treat. It was truly enjoyed by all.✨

Medieval Medicines with Peter!

We were delighted to welcome our volunteer Peter for another fascinating visit, bringing along a fantastic history box from our friends at the Discovery Museum in Newcastle.🏛️

This time, the focus was on the history of medicine, from medieval times through to the present day. Our dining room was packed as residents were keen to learn how medical practices and everyday habits have changed over the years. The box was full of hands-on items for residents to pass around, including a (slightly spooky!) plague doctor mask and a Roman “sponge on a stick” which certainly brought some laughs and highlighted just how much hygiene has improved in modern times! 😄

New Year Celebrations!✨

Our home was filled with the wonderful sound of bagpipes as residents enjoyed seeing in the New Year together. With a live bagpipe performance and a party food selection, residents, staff, and volunteers came together to celebrate in a very happy and festive atmosphere. 🎶

It was a lovely way to welcome the New Year together at our home. 🎉

Our residents and staff enjoyed celebrating together, with beautifully decorated tables and smiles all around. We were also delighted to welcome families who joined their loved ones to share such a special day.

Christmas Flowers with Linda 🌸🎄

Our residents recently enjoyed a wonderfully creative hands-on activity, creating festive floral centrepieces to decorate our dining room for Christmas Day.

The session was led by our lovely volunteer Linda, who brought everything needed to help residents design their own beautiful and unique arrangements. It was a very popular afternoon, with family members even popping in to join their loved ones and lend a helping hand.

A truly lovely afternoon filled with creativity, smiles, and some stunning centrepieces, with a few residents choosing to take their creations back to their rooms to enjoy.

Festive Fundraising Success! 🎄

We’re delighted to share that a recent festive concert in Corbridge raised an amazing £1,200 in support of Charlotte Straker House 💙

The Festive Soirée, hosted by the wonderful Wildflowers A Ca****la took place at Corbridge Parish Hall and was a sell-out evening filled with festive carols and well-loved songs. It was a perfect way to start the Christmas season. A special thank you to Eddie Nickson of Tanners Yard Band, who joined us on the night and helped make the event such a success.

Every penny raised will go towards supporting our nursing, residential and respite care at Charlotte Straker House.

Our CEO Steve Adams said: “Events like this not only raise vital funds, but also bring our community together in support of our home. The generosity shown will make a real difference to our community and residents.”

We had a wonderful, festive afternoon thanks to our volunteer Jen, who hosted a gingerbread masterclass with our residents 💙

Gathered in the dining room, residents enjoyed decorating pre-made gingerbread biscuits, while some also chose to bake from scratch — rolling the dough and using cutters to create their own festive shapes. After a short time in the oven (and a little patience while they cooled!), the biscuits were beautifully decorated and shared around the home.

There was plenty of enthusiasm and creativity on show, including one gingerbread man cleverly turned upside down to become a reindeer! 🦌

Thoughtful Giving at Charlotte Straker House 💙

Each year, our team takes part in a much-loved Christmas tradition. Every staff member is given a resident to buy a personal Christmas gift for, with a budget provided by the home. The aim is simple - to choose something meaningful that will bring joy on Christmas morning.

What always shines through is just how well our staff truly know the residents they support. The gifts are incredibly thoughtful and personal, reflecting individual interests, hobbies and life stories. From favourite treats to treasured pastimes, each present shows the genuine connections built throughout the year.

True to the spirit of Charlotte Straker House, many team members even go above and beyond, adding their own touches to make sure residents feel extra special and celebrated. These gestures are never expected, but they say so much about the compassion and dedication of our staff.

Our CEO Steve Adams shared:
“This tradition is a wonderful reminder of the genuine bonds our staff build with the people who live here. The care and attention they put into choosing each gift reflects the kindness and respect that underpin everything we do. Festive Raffle Draw! 🎁

Our festive raffle has come to a close, with a luxury Christmas hamper up for grabs — packed with mince pies, festive mugs and hot chocolate, making it the perfect treat to take home for Christmas.

The draw took place on Friday 19th December, and we’re delighted to congratulate our winner with ticket number 190🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who bought a ticket and supported the raffle. Thanks to your generosity, we raised an amazing £150, which will help support the work we do at Charlotte Straker House.

We’re Recruiting: Domestic Assistant 🌟

We’re currently looking for a Domestic Assistant to join our friendly Housekeeping team at Charlotte Straker House. This role is a vital part of keeping our home clean, comfortable and welcoming for our residents, staff and visitors.

We’re seeking someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards, is respectful of residents’ needs and enjoys working as part of a supportive team. Previous cleaning experience is helpful but not essential as we're looking for the right person with a positive attitude.
