Charlotte Straker House

Charlotte Straker House The Charlotte Straker Project is a 32 bedded care home in Corbridge. We offer high quality residential and nursing care for those over 65.

We also offer a free of charge, respite care room for short term respite breaks funded by charitable donations. The Charlotte Straker Project is a 32 bed charitable care home and offers residential, nursing and respite care to the elderly and frail. As a not for profit care home any surplus profit is reinvested back into the organisation for the benefit of our residents. We concentrate on supporting our residents and fundraising for necessary equipment, activities and resources. We also support some of our local authority residents by funding the fee shortfall - the difference between the amount the local authority pays for care and the actual cost of care. We also offer 8 supported living bungalows in our grounds. Our dedicated, well trained team ensure that individuals living in this well-equipped and comfortable accommodation receive attention all day, every day which enhances quality of life for the elderly frail in our care. Charlotte Straker House provides a “home for life” and we care for residents from the moment they arrive and for the rest of their lives, giving security to both residents and their families.

We’re Recruiting: Activities & Fundraising (Administrative Assistant)

This is a wonderful opportunity for a highly organised and enthusiastic individual to make a real difference in the lives of our residents, while also supporting our fundraising and community engagement work.

Working closely with our Activities Coordinator and Fundraising & Marketing Manager, you’ll help bring our home to life, supporting the planning of engaging activities, organising events and outings, and assisting with the delivery of fundraising initiatives and communications. From helping residents enjoy meaningful activities and trips out, to supporting events, campaigns and storytelling, this is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of our community. 💙

We’re looking for someone who:
✨ Is organised, proactive and a great communicator
✨ Enjoys working as part of a team
✨ Has basic IT skills and a positive, can-do attitude
✨ Has an interest in activities, fundraising or community engagement

Experience in a care setting is helpful, but not essential - what matters most is your enthusiasm and desire to make a positive impact.

If you’re looking for a role where no two days are the same, and where you can truly make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.

Charwallahs & Chilli Night Raises Over £2,400! 🎶🌶️💙

Corbridge Parish Hall came alive on Saturday 14th March as nearly 100 guests joined us for the much-loved Charwallahs and Chilli Night, co-hosted by Corbridge Youth Initiative and the Charlotte Straker Project.

The five-piece band The Charwallahs had everyone singing along with classic hits, including favourites by The Beatles, while the kitchen team at Charlotte Straker House served up a delicious chilli supper. The bar, run by Corbridge Cricket Club, also kept spirits high throughout the evening!

Thanks to the generosity of our community, the event raised over £2,400, with profits to be shared equally between the two charities. It was a wonderful night of music, food, laughter, and support that truly showcased the incredible spirit of giving in Corbridge.

A Special Visit from Birds of Prey 🦉💙

Last week we were delighted to welcome some very special visitors from the Kielder Water Birds of Prey Centre.

Our lounge was full as residents gathered to meet Tilly, Hazel and Whisper the owls, along with Mark the vulture. Each of these magnificent birds was carefully introduced as they were brought around the room, giving everyone a chance to see them up close.

Residents were fascinated, asking lots of questions and learning plenty of new and interesting facts. One that really surprised everyone was that owls actually have three eyelids! As well as an upper and lower eyelid, they also have a third transparent eyelid, called a nictitating membrane, which helps to keep their eyes clean and protected while still allowing them to see.

This visit was an extra special treat as part of the celebrations for our resident Nancy’s 100th birthday. Nancy has a lifelong interest in birds, so it made the day even more meaningful to be able to share this experience with her.

A truly memorable afternoon enjoyed by all. Thank you so much to the team for bringing these wonderful birds to visit us! 💙

Mother’s Day Flower Arranging at Charlotte Straker House 🌸💐

Last week our residents enjoyed a special flower arranging workshop as we prepared to celebrate Mother’s Day.

With the help of our wonderful volunteer Linda, residents spent the afternoon creating beautiful floral arrangements. Some chose to keep their flowers to brighten their rooms, while others made lovely pieces to pass on to their families as part of the Mother’s Day celebrations.

The group also worked together to create some colourful table displays, helping to bring a touch of spring into our home for the special weekend ahead.

A truly lovely afternoon filled with creativity, conversation and beautiful blooms. Thank you, Linda!💙

Armchair Travel Returns – A Trip to Denmark ✈️

This week our residents enjoyed the return of our much-loved Armchair Travel sessions, with our latest destination being Denmark!

The session was engaging, with residents sharing stories from their own travels, including memorable visits to the famous Legoland resort. It was lovely to hear everyone reminiscing and swapping travel experiences together.

Our volunteer David also told us about Copenhagen’s iconic Little Mermaid statue, inspired by the fairy tale written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. The famous bronze statue, which sits by the waterfront in Copenhagen, has been a symbol of the city for over 100 years and remains one of Denmark’s most popular landmarks.

To make the experience even more authentic, residents enjoyed some delicious fresh Danish pastries - a very special treat that went down extremely well!

A wonderful morning of travel, stories and sweet treats.

Here at Charlotte Straker House, our residents will be enjoying a special Sunday roast with all the trimmings, followed by a film club screening of Mamma Mia! to bring everyone together for a feel-good afternoon of music and laughter.

Wishing everyone a happy Mother’s Day💙
