Charlotte Straker House

Charlotte Straker House The Charlotte Straker Project is a 32 bedded care home in Corbridge. We offer high quality residential and nursing care for those over 65.

We also offer a free of charge, respite care room for short term respite breaks funded by charitable donations. The Charlotte Straker Project is a 32 bed charitable care home and offers residential, nursing and respite care to the elderly and frail. As a not for profit care home any surplus profit is reinvested back into the organisation for the benefit of our residents. We concentrate on supporting our residents and fundraising for necessary equipment, activities and resources. We also support some of our local authority residents by funding the fee shortfall - the difference between the amount the local authority pays for care and the actual cost of care. We also offer 8 supported living bungalows in our grounds. Our dedicated, well trained team ensure that individuals living in this well-equipped and comfortable accommodation receive attention all day, every day which enhances quality of life for the elderly frail in our care. Charlotte Straker House provides a “home for life” and we care for residents from the moment they arrive and for the rest of their lives, giving security to both residents and their families.

A Festive Trip to Highly Gate Garden Centre!🎄

Our residents recently enjoyed a delightful outing to Highly Gate Garden Centre, exploring the wide range of plants, gifts, and seasonal decorations on offer.

George said: “Wow, you can’t believe how big this garden centre is. It’s got everything you need.”
Margaret added: “I loved looking at all the wonderful Christmas decorations.”

After a morning of browsing, our residents and volunteers enjoyed tasty lunch options including fish fingers and chips, with everyone agreeing the food was delicious! Our residents all said they would love to return again soon for another fun day out.

It was a lovely trip full of laughter, conversation, and festive cheer and a wonderful way to get into the Christmas spirit! 🎄💙

Our residents enjoyed a fantastic friendly ping pong competition last week. They were split into teams and challenged to land ping pong balls into cups lined up on the tables. Each ball in a cup scored ten points, and it was brilliant to see everyone creating their own tactics to boost their scores.

In the end Team Margaret and Christine took the crown with an impressive total. A wonderful bit of indoor fun on these colder afternoons.

A big thank you to our volunteers Peter and Sue for supporting our residents and helping make the game so enjoyable.💙

Goodbye and Good Luck Louise!✨

Last week we said goodbye to our Care Assistant Louise. After a couple of years as an important part of our team, Louise has decided to move on to a new role, and we wish her every success for the future.

Our team gathered in the dining room to wish her well and to make her last shift with us a little more memorable. Nurse Angela led the celebration and thanked Louise for everything she has done and for being, in her words, “such a great carer”.

Thank you Louise for your care and dedication. You will be missed by everyone at Charlotte Straker House, especially the kitchen who have grown very used to you being the expert with the cafetieres at coffee time. 💙

Axe Throwing Fun Returns!

Last week, our dining room was transformed into an axe-throwing arena as more residents joined in the excitement! There was lots of friendly competition as everyone aimed for the all-important bullseye. After a few rounds, Nancy claimed the crown with the highest score and the most accurate aim! 🎯

Activities like this are a fantastic way to shake up the usual routine, challenging strength, focus, and resilience while having lots of fun. A huge thank you to our volunteer David, who kept motivation high and even witnessed a remarkable double hit with two axes landing in the exact same spot! 💙

Remembrance in Corbridge❤️

Our residents at Charlotte Straker House had a very special day taking part in this year’s Remembrance Day commemorations. From watching the parade through Corbridge to attending a moving service at St Andrew’s Church, it was a day full of meaning, especially for our resident George, who proudly carried the wreath on behalf of our home.

George served as a Physical Training Instructor in the RAF, and being part of this occasion held deep personal significance for him. His cheerful attitude and contagious laugh continue to brighten our home every day!

Getting Festive with Mince Pies!

Our residents spent a lovely afternoon last week with volunteers Jen, Louise, and Sue, getting into the festive spirit early by making their very own mince pies. Everyone rolled up their sleeves and got creative, with some choosing classic closed pies and others experimenting with fun designs. Margret J wowed us all with her pastry decorations, crafting festive stars and Christmas trees for her pies! ✨

Once baked, the pies were dusted with sugar and enjoyed with a cup of tea. It was a wonderful way to share creativity and festive cheer, and we’ll be enjoying the tasty results for days to come! 💙

A huge thank you to our volunteers and residents for making the start of the festive season so special.

Today, our residents will be heading out to join the Remembrance Parade in Corbridge, a moving tradition that means so much to our community.

We’re especially proud of our very own resident George, who will be taking part in the parade, laying a wreath on behalf of everyone at Charlotte Straker House. George served as a physical training instructor in the RAF, and being part of this special walk holds deep meaning for him.

Our volunteer Adrienne also visited this week to help us mark the occasion with beautiful Remembrance decorations — and happened to bump into George in the process (see photo)! ❤️

As we come together this weekend to reflect and remember, we send our thoughts to all those who served and those who continue to serve.

Lest we forget.
