LGBTQ+ History Month is, at its heart, about visibility, education, and solidarity. It invites everyone, regardless of identity, to engage with the rich and diverse history of LGBTQ+ communities, to honour those who came before, and to commit to a world where everyone can live authentically and without fear
Each year five LGBTQ+ figures are chosen and this year the following have been chosen:

• Barbara Burford, a medical researcher who established NHS equality and diversity guidelines
• Charles Beyer, a locomotive engineer and founding member of the Institute of mechanical Engineers
• Elke Mackenzie, a botanist who researched lichens in Antarctica
• Jemma Redmond, a biotechnologist who developed 3D bioprinters to create tissue organs
• Robert Boyle, a founder of modern chemistry and of the modern scientific method.

We had the pleasure of welcoming a Year 10 student for her work experience placement this week, and she has been an absolute joy to have on the team.
At the end of her placement, we asked her how she found her week with us

"Going into your first work experience situation can be daunting especially as a year 10 student that has never experienced the world of work. However, all of the staff at Barclay care have been so friendly and helpful the whole time. I've been included in so many aspects of the company's day to day running such as staff meetings, visiting clients, recruitment and planning the rota. I've had the best time learning so many new skills and being able to meet and get to know so many new people - from staff to clients. It's been super enjoyable and I would 100% recommend Barclay care for anyone looking to go into health and social care, i just know I'm going to miss everyone when I leave"

National Mentoring Month
Starting a career in complex care is both rewarding and demanding. new staff are expected to learn unfamiliar clinical tasks, communicate effectively, and build trust with individuals and families.
The transition from classroom training to independent practice can feel overwhelming, especially when new starters are still building confidence.
A structured mentoring programme changes this experience. It provides the human connection that bridges the gap between theory and real world practice, offering a safe space where questions are welcomed, challenges can be explored, and reflective thinking becomes part of everyday learning.

At Barclay Specialist Care, mentoring helps new staff apply the “brilliant basics,” national standards, and person centered principles in a way that feels achievable and supported.

Exciting Start to 2026!
We’re proud to announce that our first Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Tier 1 & Tier 2 Part 2 sessions will take place this January!
This training reflects our ongoing commitment to the benefits of this training whilst delivering the highest standards of care and support for our clients. By deepening our understanding of learning disabilities and autism, we’re equipping our teams with the knowledge and confidence to provide truly person-centred care.
We’re delighted to be collaborating with Quality Plus Locums, who will be delivering these sessions and helping us embed best practice across our services.

As we step into the new year, our business plan focuses on what matters most — delivering outstanding, person-centred care and continuously improving how we support both clients and colleagues.
Our priorities for 2026 include:
✅ Ongoing commitment to our clients and welcoming new individuals and ensuring they feel settled and supported
✅ Continuing Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training to strengthen our teams’ understanding and confidence in supporting people with Learning Disability and Autism
✅ Learning from lessons learned and increasing co-production with clients, ensuring their voices shape our services
✅ Continuing to drive to meet CQC Outstanding standards, which means going above and beyond in caring, effectiveness, leadership, and more
✅ Enhancing robust audit processes for continuous improvement
✅ Improving support for new starters through our new mentoring programme and embedding CPD for leaders to inspire and empower our teams
2026 is about collaboration, learning, and striving for excellence every day. Together, we’ll make a real difference.

As we reach Christmas Eve, it’s more than just the start of the festive season—it’s a moment to recognise the incredible dedication and compassion that defines the work we do every day.

While many are winding down for the holidays, we and our teams are ensuring that service users are supported, packages are staffed, and every client feels safe and cared for. Our commitment to passionately caring is at the heart of what we do. It is what makes our business truly special.

Today, as we balance the festivities with responsibility we can take pride in the difference we make. Our efforts provide opportunity to our clients to enjoy this Christmas in the way they choose, whilst maintaining their safety, well-being and stability.
