Flu Season: Protect Yourself and Others

Flu can often get better on its own, but for some individuals, it can lead to serious illness. It's important to recognise the symptoms early and take appropriate action. If you're experiencing flu-like symptoms such as a high temperature, body aches, fatigue, or a sore throat, ensure you rest, stay hydrated, and manage symptoms with over-the-counter medication like paracetamol or ibuprofen. If giving medicine to children please make sure this is suitable first by reading the packaging or speaking to a pharmacist if you aren't sure.

🔹 Contact your GP or NHS 111 for advice if:
You or your child have symptoms of flu and:
-you're worried about your baby's or child's symptoms
-you're 65 or over
-you're pregnant
-you have a long-term medical condition – for example, diabetes or a condition that affects your heart, lungs, kidneys, brain or nerves
-you have a weakened immune system – for example, because of chemotherapy or HIV
-your symptoms do not improve after 7 days

🔹Call 999 or go to A&E if you experience chest pain, difficulty breathing, or coughing up blood.

🔹 Prevent the spread:
To reduce the transmission of flu, wash your hands regularly, cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and stay home if you’re unwell.
