Working with animals is a very humbling experience. A session always starts with the intention and desire to improve things for the dog I'm working with. However every so often what I want, and hope for isn't in alignment with the dog I'm with and this was very obvious at my recent session with Rupert. I've been working with Rupert for years and this session started like all our previous ones, but it soon became apparent that we weren't on the same page that day. He was unsettled and kept himself at arms length. Whilst I wanted to get some massage done it couldn't be at the expense of the trust we had built up. So I waited to see if he would offer any areas to me for massage and once it was obvious he wasn't interested I did the only thing left and called time on the session.
Massage, or any form of touch, should always be with consent and with trust in mind. There' no room for ego!!
Hopefully by the time our next session comes around Rupert will feel more receptive to a bit of massage and we can continue to help maintain his mobility and comfort.
