As February has come to an end, we reflect fondly on the month that we spent celebrating the Filipino flower festival named ''Panagbenga''. This festival pays homage to the beautiful spirit of the Philippine's and how the citizens of Baguio City recovered following the 1990 Luzon earthquake. It is a testament to the strength of man, and how we are able to overcome the most difficult of situations while keeping morale high, and celebrating the natural wonder of fauna that follows a storm!

We celebrated with a fashion show, with items brought in from all of our Filipino staff! We learnt about the history of these garments and how the garments symbolise power and elegance.

Following that, we had a wonderful food taster session! Our manager, Xam, teamed up with the brilliant kitchen team to bring the authentic flavours of the Philippines to Brunel House! We had a great time trying sinigang soup, congee, purple yam biscuits and more!

And finally, after a month of hard work decorating all floors with florals and bright patterns, we hosted our final celebration! Each of the floors were judged on their decorations, with Mallard Community winning the grand prize! We enjoyed a hog roast and our resident and staff choir performed for us too. We were honoured to have Sam and Kirsty, two lifestyle leads within MMCG, join us for this party to see the effort we put into our Celebrating Cultures initiative! We couldn't be happier with how our month turned out, and we are truly grateful to have a home filled with such a vibrant culture!

On the 5th of March we enjoyed a visit from Tropical Discovery Workshops! Kris and his friendly creatures brought an exciting twist to our More...Sensory initiative, and those living with us absolutely loved getting involved!

We're excited to announce our plans and events for Dementia Action Week which begins May 18th!

We are beyond proud to be able to continue supporting Dementia UK in their efforts to keep on providing free, life changing support for families affected by all forms of dementia to ensure nobody has to face dementia alone.

Last year we raised £2,046! We can't wait to see what we can do this year! Please feel free to share and donate using the link below!

Keep an eye out around the home for our brand new family support and information boards!

These boards are located in our ground floor stairwell, and there's also one outside of the dining room on Caledonian. They feature materials carefully selected by our Dementia Ambassador Stacy to help families navigate their journeys when it comes to caring and supporting for a loved one who is living with a cognitive impairment.

The purple angel MP3's are a personalised playlist of fifteen songs that may have special meaning to the residents, multiple studies have shown the positive impact that music can have on those living with a cognitive impairment.

Our cinema room has always been a hit with the people living with us, however a few people have mentioned it felt a little outdated...So after two weeks of hard work, early mornings and late nights, we refurbished it!

We wanted to give it a classic and timeless cinema feel for residents to catch up with loved ones, enjoy a movie, or to shout at the football as loud as they like in a fully immersive, More...Sensory space!

On the 13th of February, continuing on with our Panagbenga celebrations, we got stuck into some Filipino foods! We spent the morning making some gorgeous banana and jackfruit fritters, which were then fried, before sampling some other savoury dishes and sweet treats in the afternoon!

We can't wait for our final celebration on the 27th, a Panagbenga party that will hopefully bring the sunshine from the Philippines to our currently cloudy country!

No gas? No problem!

Here at Brunel we were still able to pull off a fantastic pancake day without using the ovens! Our mobile pancake parlour is always a hit, with a selection of flavoursome and fruity toppings like bananas, blueberries, chocolate sprinkles and more! Though lemon and sugar always seems to be the favourite!

Here at Brunel we're spending February celebrating Panagbenga! A Filipino festival all about beautiful flowers blooming once again.

We kicked off our celebrations with a fashion show! Many of the clothing items were lent to us from our wonderful home manager, Xam!

Without the effort that our wonderful team of carers from the Philippines' put into Brunel each day, it would not be the vibrant community that it is!

We beat the rainy day blues at the end of January by visiting the Holbourne Museum in Bath! This wonderful combination of More...Creativity and More...Fresh Air was enjoyed by us all! Followed by a tasty lunch in the museum cafe and a hot drink to warm us all up!

On January 5th we celebrated 'National Whipped Cream Day' with our own version of Pie Face! Our wonderful team of targets were made up of Hayley, our head of housekeeping, Mel, our administrator, and Lisa, our deputy manager!

The people living with us adores this fun take on the More...Movement initiative, and I'm sure it won't be long before this activity is requested again!

Christmas day at Brunel was full of festive cheer and laughs! Our team all dressed up, and the people living with us wore their best outfits too! Loved ones travelled from near and far to enjoy a beautiful Christmas dinner with a glass of wine, and carols were heard echoing down the corridors!

All of us at Brunel would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the support the members of our community have shown us this year! Without the kindness shown by others towards us, we wouldn't have the ability to keep on doing what we do, so a merry Christmas and a happy new year from all of us, to you!
