So it's MENTAL HEALTH WEEK I hear.
I've gotta be honest, when Mick Tonello and I launched 'Unlocking my Greatest Self' last weekend we were totally oblivious of this fact. Poor planning you might say ... or neat synchronicity. Anyhow, we've put together a little visual here to unashamedly capitalise on the tie-in before the week passes.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of the term, 'Mental Health' and neither is MT. It's a bit...weak, hackneyed and generic. But let's live with it.

Rather than open up about my own past 'Mental Health' challenges here (see Linked In post for more if you must) let's just say the journey I've made has helped inspire and inform the book.

But it’s not just for people struggling with the zeitgeist of anxiety - which forms the early part of the book.

It’s full of mind-opening secrets as to how to live, think, cope and thrive here on planet earth. It’s also for people who really want to grow, expand a little.

21st century life has become complicated, loaded with paradox, irony and hypocrisy. We’re standing at the precipice of major change, I feel. And we need to WAKE UP, be ready - before we kill each other and the planet.

So, in the book there are Stoic insights ... and hypnotherapy practices, CBT and ACT processes, tools. Not just meditations, and visualisation exercises, breathing and journaling ideas…but real practical tips and ‘to do’s’ in the real world. Good ways of acting and looking at things. It’s all bite-sized. Simple and easy to read. And the colours have been specially chosen to engage, heal and relax. Chakra-like, I’m told by Mick.😁

Who loves Aladdin Sane? It’s the 50th Anniversary of Bowie’s masterpiece. I’m grateful for so many things in my life - including the existence of this amazing album, which got me through some tricky times.

I often encourage G and F with my therapy clients. You can be grateful for your health, your job, your kids, your friends, your parents’ selfless love…music, creativity, the miracle of nature. Whatever you need to remind yourself of, for joy and perspective.
Forgiveness, too, is one of the most powerful tools we have. It cleanses, humanises and welcomes in a new present.
So. What album do I forgive?! 😜 Ooh. Difficult.
Tales from Topographic Oceans by Yes? (Pretentious but fab imo), anything by Neil Diamond (guilty pleasure)…and, back to Bowie... his Tin Machine stuff! (he is Bowie and we forgive him everything, right.)

If you find yourself worrying or stressing, start by questioning your thinking. Is what you're thinking true? Are you worrying about something that is unlikely to happen?
Some of the thoughts we have are plain crazy. Pure fantasy. And that's totally fine. Don't take them too seriously or they can take hold and a pattern can develop. It's called Cognitive Fusion. Start to DE-FUSE. Watch the thoughts pass, accept that they come and they go. Eventually you can stop judging them entirely and just take them for what they are. Then they cease to have any control over you...and you can live more in the joy of the moment.
