Katrina Voysey Psychotherapy & Couples Counselling Feel great, experience life differently, relate better.

I'm a very experienced psychotherapist and couples counsellor (30+ years) who is training to be a supervisor at CSTD London (a leading training organisation for supervision since 1979).

Whilst I'm training, I'm offering free and low fee supervision (group and individual, online and in person Surrey CR5).

Supervision isn't just for therapists, but can be used in any work situation - eg small businesses and charities - as a place to reflect on anything that gets in the way of doing your job well, including the relationships involved (internally and externally).

I offer creativity and warm acceptance of you, your desires, strengths and challenges coupled with experience in both the therapy world and in small businesses, large corporations and charities.

Great article about the huge number of men's circles that are helping men feel better and more connected. It says "There’s some weird chemistry to being in a room with other men, all bringing something to get off their chest, and just… talking. And listening, too: it’s not quite a conversation, but a space to speak and be spoken to and then some unseen alchemy happens, and you walk away feeling better."

Across the UK, men are gathering in small groups to share how they really feel. It’s personal, non- judgmental – and potentially life-changing

Negative mental chatter and anxious fantasies may not be all bad – they could bring benefits such as greater creativity and better health

Getting sufficient sleep - ie 7-9 hours every night - is important for optimum mental functioning and well-being. This article indicates that the link between poor mental health and low sleep might go both ways:

Sleep disturbance is a recognised risk factor for developing a host of psychiatric disorders. Going to bed is the best thing you can do for your brain right now

I normally ask clients if they are on any medications that affect their mood, but would they be aware enough to mention something like Statins? https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20200108-the-medications-that-change-who-we-are?

They’ve been linked to road rage, pathological gambling, and complicated acts of fraud. It turns out many ordinary medications don’t just affect our bodies – they affect our brains.

Cliff Notes from my two part podcast with Brené Brown about how to apologize and why it matters. Speaking of “hard conversations” we sure dig in.

If you feel your partner is your friend, (ie you are a team) then difficulties do not seem so hard to face as this research shows:

"In an experiment revealing the importance of having friendships, social psychologists have found that perceptions of task difficulty are significantly shaped by the proximity of a friend.

In their experimental design, the researchers asked college students to stand at the base of a hill while carrying a weighted backpack and to estimate the steepness of a hill. Some participants stood next to close friends whom they had known a long time, some stood next to friends they had not known for long, and the rest stood alone during the exercise. The students who stood with friends gave significantly lower estimates of the steepness of the hill than those who stood alone. Furthermore, the longer the close friends had known each other, the less steep the hill appeared to the participants involved in the study.

In other words, the world looks less difficult when standing next to a close friend."

Delighted to receive this feedback from a mother and grown-up son who have just ended relational counselling: "Katrina helped us during a crisis in our relationship. She created a safe space for us to open up and express ourselves, encouraging us to understand the impact of the communication between us and the deeper meanings. We found her easy to trust, thoughtful and intuitive. She made the sessions enjoyable with her use of communication tools and we’re very grateful to have had such an experienced and creative therapist help us through our difficulties. We would highly recommend her to anyone needing counselling/therapy!"
