🀩 It's half term in Leicestershire and I'm using the opportunity for a break from my term time sessions to get some CPD in.

🎡Yesterday I attended this webinar led by Ofsted HMI National Lead for Music about the changes in inspections from November and how Ofsted will judge the quality of education in music.

A great insight into recent changes with lots of talk about assessment, curriculum, teacher workload, and expectations.

So...this happened. 🀩 Shouting about my amazing daughter today. Performing with Youth Brass 2000 on stage at the Royal Albert Hall.

Music has provided her with so many opportunities; enriched her life; given her new skills; led to life long friendships; given her the chance to spend time doing what she loves.🎡

Today, I had one to one tuition after school, helping a young learner with their number bonds! βž•οΈ

We did some hand strengthening exercises using paper cutters too. Always looking for opportunities to keep learning practical.πŸ–πŸ»

Also, this young person loves collecting things, so the fact they got to take home all the 'spare' cut out bits of paper was their favourite part of the session i think 🀣

If you're in South Leicestershire looking for tuition for your primary aged child, please get in touch for an informal chat about how I may be able to help.

All ready to deliver this evenings' training - ADHD Parenting Toolkit.

This one is one of my favourites - parents who've previously attended have said it's had a huge impact on their home lives.😁

πŸ’§ One kind word.
πŸ’§ One moment of patience.
πŸ’§ One deep breath instead of a reaction.

Small ripples that make big waves. 🌊

This World Mental Health Day, let's celebrate the ripple effect β€” the small acts of calm and kindness that make classrooms, families, and workplaces stronger.

Tag someone who creates ripples of wellbeing in your world πŸ’š

Does anyone else find it really hard to put themselves first? To prioritise your own needs above everyone else's?

For me, this is something I have always struggled with.πŸ™ And with it comes the mum guilt, the partner guilt, the work guilt, the friend guilt...

πŸ—£ My head says, 'I'm letting everyone down', 'I need to help others before myself', 'I don't have time for me', 'I can prioritise me tomorrow', 'Just get on with it - everyone else is'.

But in reality, this negative self-talk will only take us one way. πŸŒ€Further in to a spiral of feeling unecessary guilt, causing ourselves pain, doing the complete opposite of helping us feel better.

Just as I'm trying hard to be - BE KIND TO YOURSELVES (please).
When you need time to rest - take it.
When you need time to heal - take it.
When you need time to talk - take it.
When you need time to be silent - take it.

And above all, remember that you're doing the best you can to navigate this life. πŸ’œ

πŸ€” Wondering if any of my followers saw the Panorama programme last night?

I thought it was a very valuable small insight in to the SEND system and how much many parents have to battle this system for their child to have the education they deserve.

The statistics were shocking, how much longer can the Government continue to underfund SEND support for local councils? 😑

Today is National Teacher's Day. This was me on the day I left classroom teaching in 2021.

This was the day I left behind being Assistant Headteacher, SENCo, Safeguarding Lead, classroom teacher... I was exhausted.

😟I was frustrated by a system which I could see wasn't the best way to help children, particularly those with additional needs.

I'm still a teacher. I still passionately believe in supporting children to learn, grow, develop and thrive. Now though I get to be my own boss, to educate children in the way that works for them and more than anything, I'm no longer exhausted, stressed, frustrated and unhappy.

I've recently been researching more about this concept. It’s like when you tap your foot to music 🎡 without thinking β€” your brain β€œjoins in” with the rhythm.

How it can benefit children:

πŸ‚ Calming – gentle rhythms can help children feel more relaxed and less anxious.

πŸ‚ Focus – steady beats can support attention and concentration.

πŸ‚ Sleep – soothing rhythmic sounds or movements can help with falling asleep.

πŸ‚ Learning & regulation – rhythmic activities (like drumming, clapping games, or rocking) can help children regulate their energy and emotions, making it easier to learn and interact.

It can be particularly useful for children who find it hard to settle, focus, or manage big feelings.πŸ’œ
