Luke and Nick - walking the West Highland Way for Men’s Mental Health — Supporting Pathways Coventry

Since we were young, we've always dreamed of walking the West Highland Way — 96 miles through some of Scotland’s toughest and most beautiful terrain. This November, I’m finally making it happen… but this isn’t just a personal challenge. Me and Nick will be walking it to raise money for Pathways Coventry, a men’s mental health group that’s become a lifeline for so many — including me.

Pathways offers a space where men can talk, connect, and find real support. The money we raise will help cover the cost of hiring the centre we meet in and provide practical support to men in need — whether that’s helping fill their fridge, covering a bill in hard times, or giving them a chance to join in on trips and activities they couldn’t otherwise afford.

If you’re able to donate, however big or small, it would mean the world. And if you can’t, a share of this page would go a long way in helping us spread the word.

Walking a path I’ve dreamed of since childhood — for men who shouldn’t have to walk theirs alone.

10 YEARS SOBER 🙌 – MAD RESPECT FOR MAD DAVE

A powerful visual image showcasing the positive change in one of our favourite humans!

has been through it. A traumatic childhood, time in care, bereavements. He served in Afghanistan with the Army – saw and experienced more than most ever will. When he left, like so many, he turned to the bottle. And for a while, alcohol took over.

But 10 years ago, he said enough.

He’s rebuilt his life from the ground up. And if that wasn’t enough, he’s kept going through even more. Life pushed more trauma his way - but he pushed through dealing with it all while still staying sober. And putting others first.

10 years. No drink. No excuses. Just strength, grit, and love for his kid.

If you’re looking for a real-life example of resilience, of what it means to keep showing up no matter what life throws your way – this is it.

Everyone at pathways is privileged to have you around! Mad Dave? More like Strong Dave. Solid Dave. Inspirational Dave. 💪 But still mad 😂

This Sunday we were joined on our weekly victory lap by .soldier - who spent time chatting with the lads about his experiences - was great to have him along in person knowing that his online posts have had a positive influence on a lot of the lads!

We meet up every Sunday morning for a couple of laps around Coombe Abbey - coffee at Binley McDonald's at 7am then onto coombe for 730am - a great way to get some exercise, get outdoors, have a chat and meet new people.

The walks are open to any men over age of 18, just turn up at either Maccies for 7am or Coombe car park for 730am and you will see the group who will make you feel welcome.

In addition to the weekly walk, we have weekly meetings - they alternate between a Tuesday one week then a Thursday the next - meetings allow people to chat, vent, seek advice in a non judgemental environment - they start at 7pm and are held at Nulogic Academy near the canal basin.

Why do we stay active with ?
Because being fit isn’t just about the body—it’s about the mind too.

When I was 18, I lost my dad suddenly. Two years later, my mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer. By 22, she had passed away; I thought I handled it well, but I went from being a fit footballer to hitting 25 stone, relying on food and drink for comfort. It wasn’t until the penny dropped that I made changes. I focused on walking, reducing alcohol, and then running and dieting. That’s how I found a career in the military and a healthier life.

This year, I signed up for my first full marathon—26.2 miles of running, whilst Mark takes on the half marathon, taking place this Sunday in Stratford Upon Avon.

At Pathways, we encourage others to get active too. Huge thanks to the support from .coventry and everyone else!

Big shout-out to Faz, , , , , and everyone smashing their fitness goals.

Being fit boosts confidence and mental health. Let's keep pushing!

Finally, our pathways fund allows us to help the lads in the group, keeping activities inclusive as well as providing financial support to those in need. Thanks to who sponsor our bootcamps and everyone who has donated to the fund. If you want to donate the link is in our bio.

Meetings alternate between Tuesdays and Thursdays, take place at Nulogic Academy, doors 6.45pm meeting startes at 7pm.
