I was very humbled to receive this testimonial the other day. As a therapist who has been in therapy, I know how transformative the journey can be. To be able to be a part of that for the brilliant humans I get to meet in my clients makes this hands down the best way I could be spending my days.

After a lot of deliberation, I’ve decided to offer 30-minute sessions. There are many reasons you might feel like a 30-minute session is a good fit for you - either for a chapter of our work together or throughout.

Perhaps it’s time constraints or money constraints. Perhaps it’s energy/fatigue management. Perhaps you struggle to fill an hour session for one of a billion possible reasons… and that’s ok. There’s nothing wrong with you, and therapy is the last space that should make you feel like there is.

It’s ok to need to engage in a different way, and it’s on me to keep on finding new ways to hold space that include more people, work for more people, feel more right, more comfortable, more safe and accessible.

There are some ways of holding space that I can’t offer, because I’m a human too with my own strengths and struggles. But 30-min sessions? That I absolutely can do! So, if that’s what you think you’d like, let’s do it!

(Boring contracting talk: session length is mutually agreed when booking in a session. The fee that is due is the fee for the session booked - so if we booked for an hour, you’ll need to pay for an hour no matter how long you attend for. But we can totally discuss changing the length of our next booking if you’re not finding you use a full hour! 30-min sessions cost exactly half of hour-long sessions cos anything else doesn’t make sense to me!)

Last month I attended training on working with grief by the wonderful Cruse Bereavement. It felt so helpful in developing my understanding of the grieving process and how best to be alongside someone on that journey.

One of my main takeaways (a thought of my own rather than something we were taught) was realising how autistic people are dealing with grief DAILY. We were given a working definition of grief as “dealing with a change or ending”. The way changes impact us autistic folk made so much more sense to me with this deeper understanding of what grief looks and feels like.

I will be bringing this deeper knowledge of how to really be of use to someone dealing with grief to all my clients who are experiencing changes and endings… which is everyone, really, isn’t it?

I’m starting to get asked about my summer break, so while August still feels miles off for me, I’m sharing the dates of my leave now to help my clients feel prepared for this gap in our work.

I currently have no space to take on new clients. If you get in touch in the next few weeks, we can schedule an intro session for you to get a feel of whether I’m the right therapist for you. If you feel the session goes well and you would be happy to wait a little while before our first session, I will add you to a waiting list so that I can offer you a start date as soon as a spot becomes available.

This week my work with a long-term client came to an end and I am so proud of how far they came on their journey during our time together. They left me these kind words to share with you all.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility. This year more than ever, I’m so deeply aware that my ability to be out as trans at work is a privilege afforded to me by being self-employed.

Trans people are scared right now. Being visible can be dangerous right now. If you are hiding yourself to protect yourself, I want to say to you today that you are no less valid, trans or wonderful because of it.

So however visible you are, and whether that is fluid across settings or constant, I see you. You matter. The world is more magical with you in it.

Shout out to all the wonderfully q***r trans, non-binary, masc, gender non-conforming mums out there. The cards, the marketing, the language… it can grate when you’re mum but you’re not a woman. You’re an awesome mum and I celebrate you! Today is 100% for you too (if you choose it.)

My thoughts today are with everyone who finds today a painful day that reminds them of either the loss of what was but is no more, or the loss of what they never got to experience. And those too who are seeing their mum today, but will find it difficult, wounding, draining and dysregulating. I see you all and am holding space for you.

I’m starting to let my clients know that I have my main 2-week annual leave coming up in April. I know that a lot of you - like me - don’t like things coming out of the blue, so I’m putting this post here too so that everyone has as much notice as possible of this short break from sessions. In your last session before my break we will book in for after my return so you know when you next will see me.

To all my fellow plants whose entire wellbeing relies on sunlight and hydration, you made it through the darkest months! The days are getting longer, the sun has decided to grace us with her presence again, and snowdrops and daffodils are springing up all around. It’s ok if you’ve been pretty dormant this winter… you are not separate from the earth or the seasons. But no season lasts forever.
