Hypnotherapy can be very effective to overcome trauma and painful past experience, by cutting those ties to the past and focusing on the future. Say hello to my colleague Banksy. You might think he’s just a 🐶, but you’d be wrong. You see I’ve been working with a young client who is petrified of dogs, a really severe phobia, so much so she will run across the road if she sees one 😱
Obviously this is very dangerous and her parents were rightly concerned and had tried various methods to manage this phobia; to no avail.
Back to Banksy. He’s supported my work with this young lady and at her prompting, after the first session of hypnotherapy, she asked to see him, much to her Dad’s amazement. After the second session she asked to meet him; and so in came my esteemed colleague, respectful, calm and mindful of this young lady’s fears. She approached tentatively and petted him; again Dad looked on in wonder. All the while Dr Banksy, as I think we can now call him, stayed calm and respected this young lady and allowed her to go at her pace.
The progress made in just 2 sessions is incredible; from a visceral fear to a new found wonder and respect of dogs.
It’s not Banksy’s first time supporting young clients overcome their fears, but this was a really proud moment for us both.
So whilst it’s not essential for treating phobias, access to my colleague is available when working with me (some say he may be the better therapist 🐶)…

I was very sad to hear the news today, the passing of boxing legend and amazing role model, Ricky Hatton. Not only was he an amazing boxer and double world champ, but a huge advocate for mental health, having suffered with his own depression. He recently said, “Mental health isn’t weakness. It’s part of being human. And we must talk about it. We must reach out. We must lean on each other”. He also stressed the importance of getting help, noting, “Get it off your chest and don’t be too proud to admit it. Talking will be the best thing you’ve ever done”
RIP Ricky, condolences to friends and family and please anyone suffering, reach out to someone, talk, you are not alone.
