The summer solstice celebrates the longest day of the year. For those who celebrate the Sabbats. This is linked with Litha, the minor Sabbat that falls between the fire festivals of Beltane and Lughnasadh on the wheel of the year. This is the magical time when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. We see evidence our ancestors marked the solstice by monuments like Stonehenge and Grange Stone circlein Ireland where they align with the sunrise on that day.
Contemporary pagans honour Litha even though there is no solid evidence it was celebrated in the ancient times.
However its a great time for abundance, and celebrating the peak solar energy. A time to acknowledge the turning point where the shorter days beckon.
The word solstice comes from the latin word Solstitium which means sun stands still.
In wiccan traditions Litha marks the peak of the Gods power and the fullness of the Goddess. Where she is in her mother aspect. Its a sabbat of fulfillment and abundance.
The God may appear as the Oak king, the Horned God or the Green Man.
Its all about yellow, gold, orange and reds, in candles, in crystals, in plants, flowers, herbs as well as foods.
Some things to do
Walk in Nature
Watch the rise or set or both
Do some candle magic
Host a feast
Create a sun catcher
Gather herbs
Decorate your house or altar with flowers
Most of all
