šŸ’If I get dementia, I’d like my family to hang this wish list up on the wall where I live. I want them to remember these things. šŸ’

1a. Every time you enter the room announce yourself. ā€œHi Mom- it’s Margaret.ā€
NEVER ask- Do you know who I am??? That causes anxiety.
1b. If I get dementia, I want my friends and family to embrace my reality.
2. If I think my spouse is still alive, or if I think we’re visiting my parents for dinner, let me believe those things. I’ll be much happier for it.
3. If I get dementia, don’t argue with me about what is true for me versus what is true for you.
4. If I get dementia, and I am not sure who you are, do not take it personally. My timeline is confusing to me.
5. If I get dementia, and can no longer use utensils, do not start feeding me. Instead, switch me to a finger-food diet, and see if I can still feed myself.
6. If I get dementia, and I am sad or anxious, hold my hand and listen. Do not tell me that my feelings are unfounded.
7. If I get dementia, I don’t want to be treated like a child. Talk to me like the adult that I am.
8. If I get dementia, I still want to enjoy the things that I’ve always enjoyed. Help me find a way to exercise, read, and visit with friends.
9. If I get dementia, ask me to tell you a story from my past.
10. If I get dementia, and I become agitated, take the time to figure out what is bothering me.
11. If I get dementia, treat me the way that you would want to be treated.
12. If I get dementia, make sure that there are plenty of snacks for me in the house. Even now if I don’t eat I get angry, and if I have dementia, I may have trouble explaining what I need.
13. If I get dementia, don’t talk about me as if I’m not in the room.
14. If I get dementia, don’t feel guilty if you cannot care for me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s not your fault, and you’ve done your best. Find someone who can help you, or choose a great new place for me to live.
15. If I get dementia, and I live in a dementia care community, please visit me often.
16. If I get dementia, don’t act frustrated if I mix up names, events, or places. Take a deep breath. It’s not my fault.
17. If I get dementia, make sure I always have my favorite music playing within earshot.
18. If I get dementia, and I like to pick up items and carry them around, help me return those items to their original place.
19. If I get dementia, don’t exclude me from parties and family gatherings.
20. If I get dementia, know that I still like receiving hugs or handshakes.
21. If I get dementia, remember that I am still the person you know and love.ā€

Today on VE Day, we pause to honour the bravery and sacrifice of all those who fought for peace and freedom during the Second World War.

Working in care, we are privileged to support people whose lives were shaped by those historic times, some of whom lived through the war, served their country or contributed to the effort on the home front. Their strength and stories continue to inspire us every day.

As we reflect on the significance of this day, we also recommit ourselves to showing the same compassion, dignity and respect that generations before us upheld in times of hardship.

ā¤ļø We remember and we thank you ā¤ļø

🌟 Meet the team! 🌟
For those who don’t already know, we’d love to introduce you to our lovely registered manager, Amy! The heart and soul of our wonderful team.

ā€œA Little bit about me, well where do I begin, I started in the caring sector while I was studying Health Studies at college, working in care homes really made me understand myself but also the circle of life that we all must go through, regardless of age. I took a year out once finishing my studies but realised I missed working in care, I knew I didn’t want to really work in a care home so I discovered domiciliary care and the rest is history, as I knew this is the path I wanted to walk.
I have worked for some fabulous companies over the years and learning knowledge in all different areas like caring, senior roles, coordination and also being a registered manager, but I always had this feeling of wanting to do more, not just for myself but for people who needed care, by doing things the right way instead of from a textbook, this was from the heart.

So, with the quote a client once told me many years before ā€˜don’t wait for the right time, do the things you love now before it’s too late’ in 2022 I decided to go for it and set up my very own domiciliary care company, using my found knowledge and understanding over the years of what people want and expect in care, especially within a person’s own home. I started of very small doing a lot of the work myself and then over time expanding upwards and starting new journeys with people who joined me on my own travels with the sight of making a difference, be it big or small.
I now have the most amazing people working alongside me with the same illusion of what care is and also the most wonderful clients that come into our lives, gaining their trust that we are there for them, not just as a ā€˜carer’, but as a friend. Being kind, no matter your age is what people will always remember, being part of someone’s life whether it's days, weeks, months or years is the most rewarding experience I can possibly feel and knowing that they chose my company and the people who work closely with me, is an honour.
A little peace of mind goes a long way for a person and that’s why I believe, peace always begins with a smile.ā€

We’re back, refreshed, and ready to take on 2025 with big plans and even bigger energy! ā¤ļø
