Welcoming spring with open arms, BUT with that, we have the arrival of pollen and hayfever 🔪 🔪 🔪

I’ll honestly say that treating allergies, especially hayfever is probably one of my favourite problems to treat, due to the immune systems immediate response to the carefully selected acupuncture points that helps settle the level of histamine and inflammation the body has been overproduced from combating the pollen.

Effects can be felt sometimes within the first 24 hours, and sometimes even the second you jump off the bed, but to ensure that the effects do sustain, regular treatment is advised for a short period of time (ideally once a week, for around 4-6 sessions) and then once the improvements start to take hold, infrequent treatments will be encouraged, but maintenance is still important in order to keep the body in check as we transition through spring into summer.

Chinese medicines wisdom on digestion is SO bloody simple yet so impactful.

Are you guilty of poor eating habits? Is there anything you could improve? Understandably life is chaotic at times, and we don’t always support our bodies the way our bodies requires us to, however this is the beauty of Chinese medicine, you can just return back to the basics, get into a routine of healthier habits again, no complications.

Acupuncture 🫱🏼‍🫲🏾 infared

I made my break extra cosy today and used my infared lamp to support my pelvic and lower back region ahead of my period next week.

Infared deeply penetrates heat past the skin barrier, warming the tissues and muscles, helping to draw blood into the area, this then improves the circulation of blood which reduces pain. I use it a lot on patients with period, fertility and muscular skeletal issues.

And then add this on top of an acupuncture treatment, you can only imagine the relaxation levels 😌

❌Infared should be avoided when patients are:

•Pregnant
•Showing signs of a fever or acute illness
•Has aversion to heat
•Has high blood pressure or active cancer
•Has skin issues which are severe (eczema, psoriasis, urticaria)
•Actively bleeding
•Has an acute joint problem
•Under the influence of drugs/alcohol

In the midst of the all chaos and darkness happening currently, always remember that the world is also healing, real change is happening, even when sometimes it feels like what is broken goes beyond repair.

Thinking about how you and your partner could try and optimise fertility outcomes? Look no further than acupuncture (with some additional lifestyle advice tips!).

From reducing stress, to improving sleep quality, egg and s***m quality, improving blood flow to the uterus, it’s a bit of babe when it comes to holding your hand through the process.

Insomnia from a Chinese medicine angle.

Cold is seen as a pathogenic factor in Chinese medicine, that disrupts the flow of energy and blood circulation around the body.

Cold can lead to what we call cold stagnation but shouldn’t be considered the main diagnosis for the conditions I’ve mentioned, as there will usually be a range of other issues in the picture as well, diagnosis is always tailored to the individual.

At the end of the day, it really is down to understanding your body. Everything must be consumed in moderation, and ingesting cold for long periods of time is usually not advised, due to its harshness on the digestive tract, its impact on pain, fertility, menstruation and energy levels, as well as its effects on the immune system.

Ways to warm your body if you are impacted by cold:

✔️ drink ginger tea / ginger is a warming herb and helps to warm the body up, improve immunity and strengthen digestive weakness.

✔️Drink room temperature water, not straight out of the fridge.

✔️Wear socks especially if you have cold floors at home.

✔️Consume warm foods such as porridge, stews, soups, bone broths.

✔️use saunas, this helps to improve immune function, blood circulation; decrease pain levels, relax muscles, and other tissues.

✔️Keep your lower back and abdomen covered always.

❌ Avoid ice baths.

❌Avoid/limit iced drinks, ice creams, raw salads, frozen fruit, cold breakfasts like smoothies, cereal, yoghurts and fruit and overnight oats that have been refrigerated and left cold.

Well we sure as hell weren’t taught about each of these stages during school, so hopefully you’ve been given some insight by now about the different stages of your menstrual cycle, and if you haven’t, hopefully this post can enlighten you a bit more, and help you to adjust and support your body in the way that it needs supporting through whichever phase you’re in 🙏🏼

Confessions of an acupuncturist.

Don’t get too excited, just a little insight into areas of my own wellbeing that I can sometimes struggle with. We all have our problem areas, understanding our own nervous systems, and bodies, gives us deeper awareness of how to harness ourselves when things are out of sync.

Foods that help to metabolise estrogen:

Sprouts, kale, collard greens, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, flax seeds, raspberries, and blueberries.

Fibre supports the liver in processing estrogen, it also helps to bind up estrogen, reducing its absorption in the colon which encourages its elimination through 💩.

That’s right 😛

I will be doing 2 half price days during February, the first day is Tuesday 11th February and the following will be revealed next Wednesday.

This incentive entitles you to a 1 hour acupuncture treatment that will cost £26 instead of £52 😮 this allows you to be booked in for 1 discounted session, any subsequent sessions will resume at normal rate.

If you don’t manage to get an appointment on the 11th, you can wait and reapply for the next release date.

New and regular patients are all welcome!

T&C’s

Appointments are on a first come first serve basis, as well as a few conditions on being eligible for the appointment.
