Finding Balance Moments of calm to aid Health & Well-being www.webmd.com

"Holistic medicine practitioners believe that the whole person is made up of interdependent parts and if one part is not working properly, all the other parts will be affected. In this way, if people have imbalances (physical, emotional, or spiritual) in their lives, it can negatively affect their overall health."

🌱Here at finding balance we are celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week that runs from 10th- 16th May.

🐦This year the theme is Nature and how connecting with the natural world can support good mental health.

🌻It reminds me of this perfect poem by Wendell Berry.

"I rest in the grace of the world and am free"

Its also St Brigids day or Imbolc
-
Traditionally a time to festival welcome the first signs of spring of the the earth waking up after the long dark winter. 🌱
-
There are many Irish traditions surrounding St Brigids day. One is to make a St Brigids cross to be hung over the threshold of the home. The cross helps to ward off fire and hunger and is also seen as a sign of peace and goodwill. 🕊

Welcome spring we have been waiting for you! 🌱🌼🐑

🍁❄Today is the shortest day of the year when we officially switch from Autumn to Winter.

The winter equinox known as Gheimhridh in Gaelic is seen as a time of rebirth and renewal, as signified by the return of the light.

With the longest night tonight we have an opportunity to see the 'Christmas Star' a rare site in the night sky.

Jupiter and Saturn two of the largest planets will be aligned and this hasnt been viewed since the middle ages. Its thought this was the star that guided the wise men to Bethlehem. 🌟

🍂Natures pharmacy! 🍂
-
During WWII a “national week for the collection of rosehips” was established in late September. Lots of volunteers headed to the hedgegrows to pick this fruit.
-
The practice has died out but our Autumn hedgegrows are still full of natures fruits!
-
Containing more Vitamin C than oranges Rosehip syrup is a fantastic tonic for coughs and sore throats.
-
🍁Rummaging around today in the last of the September Sun my harvest is about to be cooked to help us through the winter illnesses🍁

DAY 4 Mental Health Awareness Week @ finding balance 💚🌱
-
A late post as it's been one of those 'Meh' kind of days.
-
Sometimes they creep up on us. You may have exercised, eaten healthy and done all of the things that usually keep your head above water and sometimes the day just feels sort of woolly.....and upon reflection woolly is apt as the lack of consistent good sleep is the reason! (Must have forgotten to have counted those sheep!)🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑
-
There has been lots of scientific research into how lack of sleep impacts our mood and also our ability to function.
-
Sleep can be evasive at various times due to worries, health or when looking after others. But its important to do what you can to help your body have it's all important recharge overnight. 🔋
-
So put that phone down atleast a hour before bed, have a warm milk and take a few moments to ease into sleep.
-
📚Read a book

📝Keep a notebook by your bed to use to make a list of things on your mind to help clear your head

🎧Or I like to take a trip to Aberystwyth from the sleep stories. Works everytime! (And I havent ever found out whether the train gets there....🚂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿)
-
When you sleep well everything seems brighter
-
-
So have a think about when you sleep well and what helps you enter the land of nod.
-
Night night xx
