A recently publish research study found that an increased BMI could result in more serve outcomes from COVID-19. If you are concerned about your personal health and weight or the health and weight of your staff please do contact us. We provide health and wellbeing webinars and personally tailored programmes that fit easily into the working day and busy lifestyles.

In this very large, community-based cohort study, it was found that the hazard ratio of severe outcomes from COVID-19 (ie, admission to hospital, admission to ICU, or death) increase progressively above a BMI of 23 kg/m2, which is not attributable to excess risks of related diseases such as type 2 diabetes. It was found that BMI is a greater risk factor for younger people (aged 20–39 years) than for older people (≥80 years), and for Black people than for White people.

At a BMI of more than 23 kg/m2, we found a linear increase in risk of severe COVID-19 leading to admission to hospital and death, and a linear increase in admission to an ICU across the whole BMI range, which is not attributable to excess risks of related diseases. The relative risk due to increasin...

We all know that sitting too much, being sedentary isn’t good for us. However, with more of us working from home, predominantly on computers, we are sitting rather too much!

When working from home, we are less likely to move as much as we would in the office, where we get up to go to meetings or walk over to a colleague to chat. Scientific evidence shows that avoidance of sedentary behaviour plays a significant preventative role in the management of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity and mental health disorders.

So how can regular activity be incorporated into the home working day?

I asked my clients and here are their top 5 very simple strategies to keep active and stop sitting when working from home.

1) Walk, stand, move on Zoom meetings.

2) Set an hourly alarm prompt you to get up and moving.

3) Get up and fetch a regular glass of water/drink rather than having a large drink on your desk.

4) Plan breaks, as you would at work and take a short walk or follow an online exercise/yoga class during them.

5) Practice seated exercises, stretches and movements.

Wishing you all an active and successful day.
