It’s with great sorrow that we share the news that our Vice-President Carol Jennings has sadly died with dementia aged 70. We’re sending love and support to her husband, Stuart, and their family.
Carol, like her father and many other members of their family, had familial Alzheimer’s disease. This form of dementia strikes its patients before the age of 65, much sooner than the typical disease, and the condition deteriorates much faster.
We are so grateful for the vast contribution Carol and her family have made to dementia research. Their involvement was vital in the seminal Alzheimer’s Society study in the late 1980s which provided the first evidence that amyloid protein contributes to the causes of Alzheimer’s disease.
This groundbreaking research paved the way for the development of today’s breakthrough disease-modifying drugs such as lecanemab and donanemab which could be game-changers in allowing families more time together.
Our CEO Kate Lee said ‘Carol’s enthusiasm, willingness to be vulnerable and outspokenness about how Alzheimer’s disease devastated her family continued even as dementia took hold and consumed the final years of her own life.
‘Her dedication offers help and hope to millions of people affected by dementia worldwide, and we are very grateful for everything that Carol has done.’
