I believe this is one of the most dangerous things the human race is facing today.

The fitness industry is full of noise and distractions,

Constantly new ways to get results with your fat loss, fitness and general health and wellbeing.

Many made up stories to gain exposure and make money from people. Pulling at people’s limited knowledge and insecurities, forcing people to believe they are more broken than they think and investing in gimmicks that lead nowhere.

Not to mention the new craze of getting a result with no effort needed 💉

And this is what scares me the most,

At no time in our history have we had the ability to gain a result with no effort needed. Other than not having to leave your house to get your shopping, of course.

But now, you can drop body fat and lose weight without having to do the hard work.

And there lies the problem, we are here to do hard, difficult and downright challenging things,

We would not exist if it were not for these constant challenges and obstacles.

We grow and develop as people through the challenges we face and the goals we set for ourselves.

Take a moment to consider where this could take us. Not having to push yourself to learn new skills, gain knowledge, and engage in physically challenging activities will only lead us to extinction.

Technology and science are amazing, and we are blessed to live in a time that has seen such massive leaps in both these areas. However, we must also not stray from the very thing that got us to this point in the first place.

Our ability to thrive through pain and challenges, both physically and mentally, and our capacity to learn and improve are our greatest strengths.

I genuinely believe that what we are looking for, what truly lights us up, all comes from the willingness to step into the fight, lean into the unknown, and be willing and ready to be challenged.

As the great man, Marcus Aurelius, once said,

“The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”

The world is always asking you to do one thing,

Be challenged; do the hard stuff - that is what you were made for.

It’s a common misconception that discipline is about restriction, missing out, and doing things you don’t want to do. But in reality, it’s about making choices that serve your long-term health and fitness goals.

I see this a lot when helping people transform their long-term health, fitness and well-being,

When done with the right intentions and reason why, discipline can lead to a future filled with positive outcomes, one being freedom.

Nothing great was built on easy,

Nothing was accomplished by chance.

Nothing got done while always being comfortable,

It takes some resistance to achieve anything, and better health is no different. But remember, it’s this resistance that makes you stronger and more resilient in your health and fitness journey.

Embedding some better sleep habits takes resistance,

Making better food choices takes some resistance,

Training and pushing your body in the gym is physical resistance,

Now, I’m not saying with every single task you do for every moment of your day, you need to find resistance to be successful with your goals,

But knowing this resistance and discipline in the short term leads to freedom in the long term,

More energy so that you can do more with family and friends (creating lifelong memories)

Discipline leads to better sleep quality so that you are more focused and have the clarity to succeed in your life,

Discipline stops you from doing the things that take precious time away from you and allows you to do the things that matter,

Discipline helps you regain control over your life so that you can show up for yourself and your family as the person you know you are.

Discipline isn’t about making life difficult; it’s the gateway to a better quality of life,

So don’t run from it, don’t fear it, move towards it,

Build the resistance to build life qualities, and you will find freedom.

Supporting men to thrive in a world of self-doubt, overwhelm and uncertainty.

My work over the decades has taken me into many different settings, from education, working with children and young adults with physical and learning needs to support the development of aspiring footballers to changing my clients’ lives in person and online,

One consistent aspect of these roles has been the desire to make a difference in people’s lives and help them have the best opportunity to lead empowering, progressive, and happy lives.

With my own self-doubt, battles with self-worth, and limiting beliefs, it is my continued mission to support as many people as I can through the challenges that life presents so that men can lead empowering, positive, and developing lives and have a positive impact on their families and the world.

Knowing that there is support for men who are struggling with mental health is so important, and more awareness and openness to talk matters.

That’s why I will highlight the fantastic work the Manup do in supporting men suffering from mental health issues.

.how is a groundbreaking charity focusing on why men are struggling with mental health issues, providing free therapy group sessions for any man in need—always without charge and working to break down the stigma around male mental health.

In addition, Manup offers educational webinars that are accessible to all and cover a range of men’s mental health topics. These sessions directly support men, aim to educate others on listening better, and foster deeper engagement with those struggling.

As I continue my work with THRIVE to support men’s health, I plan to support Manup’s continued commitment to men’s health and save more lives.
