Our vision: To work for the wellbeing of the people we serve and to be recognised as the best at what we do. The organisation now provides services from more than 80 locations with an income of about £200 million, and employs more than 4,000 dedicated staff. We are proud to be at the forefront of the national STOMP agenda (stopping the overmedication of people with a learning disability and autistic people). 🩵

Recognised by Health Innovation West Midlands, we have been invited to provide leadership for the West Midlands region as part of the national Medicines Safety Improvement Programme (MEDSIP) for people with a learning disability.

Our teams are making positive change by:

✅ Delivering education and support across local services
✅ Reaching communities who are often left out by launching the multicultural STOMP initiative
✅ Partnering with local voluntary organisations such as Inini, Coventry Muslim Forum, The Tamarind Centre, Sahil Project, and more

Together, we’re tackling health inequalities, improving trust, and shaping fairer, more person-centred healthcare for everyone.

It’s International Stammering Awareness Day! 💬

Stammering (or stuttering) is a difference in the way some people speak.

Someone who stammers might:
- Repeat sounds or words
- Stretch out certain sounds
- Have silent “blocks” where sound momentarily gets stuck

Everyone does these things sometimes but for people who stammer, it can happen more often.

At 7 years old, Jo Short knew she wanted to become a nurse. What she also knew, was that she felt different from other people but didn't know why.

Now, over 20 years into her nursing career, an autism and ADHD (AuDHD) diagnosis in early 2025 helped a lot of Jo's experiences begin to make sense.

This ADHD awareness month, Jo shares her story. Her experience shows that awareness, flexibility, and the right support can make a meaningful difference. It’s important to recognise neurodiversity and create an environment where everyone can thrive. 🩵

“I knew there was something wrong with me mentally, but I never knew what was it and how to go about it. And in the culture, in African culture, Burundi culture, mental illness is not seen as an illness.”

Born in Burundi, Elvis Bakundukize has experienced trauma from witnessing civil conflict and facing stigma towards mental illness and sexual identity. He now carries the strength, pain, and compassion of his experiences to help others. As a peer support worker at our Trust, Elvis challenges stigma, can provide a deep understanding that helps to break down barriers, and stands as a symbol of hope for recovery.

Black History Month is a time to honour contributions that often go unrecognised, the achievements and resilience of the black community, and to continue the conversations that can help reduce health inequalities 🩵🌍
