What is EMDR, I hear you ask.
It’s a therapy developed by Psychologist Dr Francine Shapiro in the 1980s, initially working with war veterans and PTSD, and later successfully applied to a range of psychological issues.
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a structured psychotherapy treatment that helps individuals process and resolve traumatic memories and associated distress by using bilateral stimulation, like eye movements, while recalling the traumatic event.
Is it credible? In a word, absolutely yes!
In the UK, EMDR therapy is recognized as a treatment for PTSD by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), the NHS and the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as overseas by bodies such as the American Psychological Association.
