April marks the start of Bowel Cancer Awareness Month! If you are aged between 50 and 74, you will be invited to take part in bowel cancer screening every 2 years. You can contact the local bowel cancer hub on 0800 783 8042, open 8am - 5pm, Monday to Friday if you have any questions.

The Bowel Cancer Screening Programme aims to detect cancer at an early stage in people with no symptoms, when treatment is likely to be more effective. Keep your kit by the loo, don't put it off.

Those eligible for bowel cancer screening will receive an invitation letter, along with an information leaflet (available in multiple languages) explaining screening and its possible benefits and risks.

About a week later, the programme will send a Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) kit with instructions on how to use it at home. Results are sent out two weeks after the laboratory receives the completed kit. At this point, if the test is positive, a referral is then sent to the Screening Centre at University Hospital in Coventry. For more information, please visit the Bowel Cancer Screening page on the UHCW website, linked in the comments.

From today, Park Leys has officially returned to a total triage way of operating. We are able to do this with the help of Anima. Anima can be accessed Monday to Friday, 8am until 6:30pm. Requests are reviewed during this time, and you will be advised on the actions being taken. We aim to respond to all queries the same day they are submitted. We will always prioritise urgent healthcare issues. Some routine or administrative queries may take us longer to reply to, but we will keep you updated via your Anima account.

Changes you can expect to see:
When you contact the surgery you will be prompted to complete a short questionnaire depending on your needs. For medical queries, your results are then directly sent to our most senior doctors who will decide on the best plan to help you. You might be offered a telephone appointment, an in-person appointment, a blood test request, or a referral to a local service for example. For administrative enquiries, your results will go to the most appropriate member of staff based on your request. We aim to respond to all queries the same day they are submitted.

We are strongly encouraging our patients to get comfortable with using the online service as it is the easiest, fastest and most convenient way to get your request to the people that can help. A short 2-minute demonstration video will be linked in the comments.

Please be reassured, our phone lines will still be open. The receptionist will read aloud from the questionnaire and input your answers. We anticipate this process may cause longer wait times on the phone lines, especially as staff and patients get accustomed to this new way of operating. In order to prioritise our most vulnerable patients, we are asking patients to please only call if the following applies:

• If you do not have access to the internet, or struggle using it
• If you have a language barrier
• If you have a disability
• If you are in mental health crisis
• If you are neurodivergent

We are also asking our patients to please avoid requesting to book non-routine appointments at our front desks. As we must prioritise those arriving for pre-booked appointments, you will be asked to wait until another member of staff is available to submit a request on your behalf. At busy periods this may cause an unnecessary long wait, with the online questionnaire on average can be completed in 5 minutes or less.

We know change isn't always easy, but by putting the clinical decision making directly into our doctor’s hands we can ensure all our patients are getting the best care without delay. If you have any questions or have any feedback, please get in touch by calling the surgery Monday to Friday, any time after 2pm.

Important changes are coming to Park Leys. Some patients may already have noticed that earlier this month our online consultation service has changed. It is now provided by Anima, and we hope our patients are already seeing the benefits!

From **Wednesday the 25th of February**, when you contact the surgery you will be prompted to complete a questionnaire. For medical queries, your results will be directly sent to our most senior doctors who will decide on the best plan to help you. For administrative enquiries, your results will go to the most appropriate member of staff based on your request. This means the receptionists will no longer be booking appointments directly. Instead, you will be contacted with the next steps as soon as your questionnaire has been reviewed. You might be offered a telephone appointment, an in-person appointment, a blood test request, or a referral to a local service for example.

We are strongly encouraging patients to get comfortable with using the online service as it is the fastest and most convenient way to get your request to the people that can help. You will still be able to call the surgery. The receptionist will read aloud from the questionnaire and input your answers. We anticipate this process may cause longer wait times on the phone lines, especially as staff and patients get accustomed to this new way of operating. We are asking patients to please only call if you are technically limited with accessing online applications or need to speak to someone urgently.

We know change isn't always easy, but by putting the clinical decision making directly into our doctor’s hands we can ensure all our patients are getting the best care without delay. If you have any questions or have any feedback, please get in touch by calling the surgery Monday to Friday, any time after 2pm.

Road closure warning! From Monday 16th to Friday 20th February, part of Bennetts Road will be closed. While only a small section of road will be closed (near Keresley United Reformed Church), this will make transport between the two surgeries located on Bennetts Road South and Bennetts Road North difficult due to diversions. As we have three locations please take extra care to confirm where your appointment will be held. We may need to reschedule your appointment if you arrive at the wrong practice.

Bennetts Road South, CV6 2FL: This is our main practice, located inside of the Keresley Green Medical Centre which is shared with Springfield Medical Practice. This location is opposite Keresley Coronation Club and is just before the B4098 road that takes you towards Coventry city centre. The number 16 bus route will take you to a stop located just outside the surgery.

Bennetts Road North, CV7 8LA: This is our smaller village practice, on the corner of Exhall Road (New Road if coming from Ash Green), located by Keresley End. You can find it between Keresley Community Library and the small parade of shops (Crest Pharmacy, One Stop, Village Fish Bar, Premier Chicken) and the number 16 bus route will also take you just outside this surgery.

Fillongley, Coventry Road, CV7 8EQ: This is our smallest practice and our only dispensing practice. It is located on the bend, just before the start of Fillongley village. If coming from Coventry you will pass Fillongley Village Hall on your left and you can find the practice on your right. Regretfully, there is no direct bus to this surgery. The 735 bus route will take you as far as Fillongley with a 10 minute walk towards the surgery. As this service is not very frequent, we recommend alternative arrangements.

When making an appointment please let the receptionist know of your preferences; we will always endeavour to provide you with an appointment that is located at a practice that is accessible to you. If you are ever uncertain of where your appointment will be held, please call or use our e-consultation service located on our website.
