Here's another medical post showing that plant extracts, in this case, turmeric and frankincense (Boswellia serrata), work very well in relieving pain and stiffness in hand osteoarthritis. The extracts were taken internally as supplements, which suggests to me they were the actual plant in powdered form, but that information isn't on the article. I'm pretty sure the essential oils would also work!
If you'd like to learn how to use herbs and essential oils, get in touch.

I saw this very interesting article on Medscape today, which goes over the therapeutic qualities of three commonly used spices, with notes regarding their potential implications for prescription medicines.
The implications are only applicable if the client is consuming large amounts of the spices, or indeed consuming essential oils - which I DON'T RECOMMEND ANYONE DOES EXCEPT IN CERTAIN WELL-DEFINED CIRCUMSTANCES! It is stil safe to use spices in your cooking, and restrict the essential oil usage to one or two drops per blend. (Cinnamon isn't on the commonly taught list for the UK anyway, and neither is turmeric.)
It also highlights how it is important to know what "cinnamon" you are using anyway, and that is one reason for studying aromatherapy. We do offer aromatherapy courses at the Amethyst Centre, so if you are interested please get in touch.

Cinnamon, turmeric, and ginger may interact with anticoagulants and chemotherapeutics, raising bleeding risk and reducing drug efficacy in high doses.

Morning! We are open until 6 tonight, with Komal from Sano Physiotherapy seeing clients.
Wasn't it a refreshing break from the hot weather yesterday! Temperatures rising nicely now, hopefully it won't be oppressively hot like it was last week. And the schools break up on Friday so I'm guessing we can say goodbye to hot weather for a bit then...
With the schools breaking up we have the Summer School running here. Have a look at what is planned for the rest of the month in the graphic attached. To book, message the Centre and we'll let you have the link or take your details.

I'm not a fan of the really hot weather we've had over the last few days, it really knocked me for six on Friday and I cancelled the Reiki Share as a result. I do apologise if you turned up expecting it, but I couldn't guarantee to get the Centre cool or that I would be in a fit state to run it. Hopefully this week will bring some better weather (i.e. cooler) for those like me!
