Keep hydrated!!
🤔It is believed the average human can live for roughly three weeks without food, three days without water and three minutes without oxygen.
💦Drinking water, in the form of fluids or foods, is essential for our health, and a vital nutrient which our body needs. Depending on which research you read, it’s believed most adults need about 2 to 2.5 litres of fluid a day, which is around 8 glasses. But environmental factors such as the temperature, activity level and intensity and personal health conditions have affect on the amount of water you need.
⚖️ When our intake doesn’t equal our output, we become dehydrated. For example through sweat loss in warmer climates or strenuous exercise,
🧫 Our body is about 60% water, and it’s transportation through the body assists functions such as digestion, absorption, circulation, transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature.
💪 Water helps energise our muscles. When muscle cells have inadequate fluids, they are unable to work effectively, performance can suffer, which can result in muscle fatigue and lethargy.
🦴 Water is a key nutrient making up the fluid lubricating our joints, allowing for ease of movement.
❤️🩹 Drinking water is also an essential part of recovery, removing toxins and keeping our muscles in proper working order.
✏️Dehydration symptoms include:
- Muscle cramping
- Fatigue
- Lightheadedness
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Lack of concentration and focus
Top Tip
A good clue as to whether we are hydrated is the colour of our wee!! Ideally our urine should be a pale, yellow colour. Darker yellow are you are most likely dehydrated.
So keep filling up that water bottle and encourage yourself to drink, even in cooler climates.
