❌ROTATOR CUFF RELATED SHOULDER PAIN ❌

The rotator cuff muscles help stabilise the shoulder and guide smooth movement. When they get irritated, movements like reaching overhead, lifting, or even sleeping can feel sore.

Here are 3 exercises we often use in rehab to build strength, control, and confidence in the shoulder:

🔹 Banded External Rotation with Step
👉 Targets the rotator cuff in a functional way — step out as you rotate and lift your arms to add controlled resistance.

🔹 Sword Drawer with Band
👉 Mimics drawing a sword — great for strengthening through range and encouraging shoulder opening.

🔹 Plank Shoulder Taps (or Wall Taps for an easier option)
👉 Challenges cuff endurance and shoulder stability, helping you tolerate load better in day-to-day tasks.

✅ Start with light resistance or the wall variation if painful.
✅ Slow and controlled reps are key.
✅ Gradually progress as strength and confidence improve.

Keep it consistent — the goal is not just pain relief but long-term resilience in your shoulder.

‼️PATIENT CASE STUDY‼️

"Don’t ignore that nagging injury and get it sorted sooner rather than later.
If you are a runner like me you always have your next challenge in sight whether it’s beating a PB or a new route to conquer.
I ignored that sore knee for 6 months then disaster arrived… a right knee non weight bearing 4 weeks before a ski holiday and 4 race runs entered in the next 8 months.
X-rays showed no break so basically ligament and muscle injury.
I run to enjoy the outdoors , wellbeing and fitness so the injury was difficult to accept.
However after an initial assessment with Michael he told me that I could be back running in 6 weeks and would go skiing in 4 weeks.
Physio is either embraced and exercises done regularly as advised or I have seen people who think once they can do the exercise then they don’t repeat regularly and incorporate in their rehab.
Not that I’m competitive (Michael would disagree!!!) I did my physio exercises every day . Each week I increased the number of different exercises set.
Skiing was a success and I was back to gentle running in 6 weeks. My own goals were met as I ran across Blaydon finish line and completed the Durham 10k festival run. The Great South 10mile is my next challenge.
So don’t ignore that ache or injury, get it checked out sooner rather than later and don’t miss your next running goal whether. Park Run PB or another challenge.
I have also now joined a RunFit weekly session at Platinum to continue building my strength and fitness ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐⭐"
