What is Autism?

Autism is a developmental disorder. Whilst autistic people share some difficulties, the way it affects each person is different - that's why it's a spectrum condition.

People with autism can also be more sensitive to everyday sensory information - they see, hear and feel things differently.

They experience the world differently, and that's their super power ❤️

Today marks the start of Autism Acceptance Month.

Autism is not an illness or a disease. It is an invisible condition. People with autism see the world in a different way. Each person with autism is unique and having the right support can improve their everyday lives.

Over the week I will discussing the different ways we can help autistic children and young people daily. We'll also look at how schools can help and where parents and caregivers can find help and support. I have changed my graphics this week to make them less busy to help with sensory overload.

The main aim this week is to help as many people as possible to understand autism and realise it's actually a super power!

🌈Stand up still and tall. Relax your arms and shoulders.

🌈 As you breathe in, raise your arms up wide until they are above your head with your palms facing each other.

🌈 As you breathe out, slowly move your arms down. Imagine you are making a rainbow with your arms.

🌈 Repeat as many times as you need.

Happy Holi!

Holi is a vibrant colourful Hindu festival that celebrates the end of winter and the beginning of spring. A celebration of love, symbolising rejuvenation and rebirth.

One of the most iconic traditions you may have seen is people gathering together in white tshirts and throwing coloured powered dyes at each other. It looks like so much fun!

The festival includes music, food and dancing. A real celebration 🥳
