How to approach an injury you may pick up in sport, playing with kids, a hobby, work or those gorgey heels you couldn’t resist buying?

A few clients have been in lately dealing with minor injuries mainly from playing sports. Our conversations have all lead here.

Rehabilitation of soft tissue injuries can be complex. Over the years, acronyms guiding their management have evolved. From RICE to PRICE and then to POLICE. But In 2020, the acronym for injury management underwent one of its biggest evolutions, to PEACE and LOVE ☮️💜

Take a few minutes and give these pictures a read if you play any sport, coach a sport, if you exercise, have kids, have a body or just a bit curious.

Following an injury allow 1-3days of PEACE and beyond the first three days, your tissues need LOVE. Each person is different and these times may vary depending on many factors. Seek advice from a qualified professional if you have an injury.

How Sports massage can help you? 💪🏼

Assists with recovery from Training.

Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is the pain and stiffness that occurs in muscles after exercise, usually 12–48 hours later. It’s caused by temporary muscle damage and inflammation, and is often triggered by eccentric exercises, which involve lengthening the muscles.

To help reduce DOMS and aid recovery, massage may be useful. It can help by increasing circulation to the area massaged and helping to flush out any fluids that builds up during exercise.

This can help improve your recovery and leave you better able to optimise your training in the following days. Allowing you to continue to hit your goals.

Remember massage is only one part of a good recovery game. You can’t out run a bad diet, lack of sleep, dehydration and a bad mindset. Find the right recovery routine that works for your goals and your lifestyle. We are each unique and what we each need might look slightly different.

Feeling very grateful. I am now fully booked for the next four weeks. I do not have any appointments until November. There is only one of me therefore I am having to prioritise my own body and only take on as many as I can. This is to ensure that I can continue to keep doing what I love and helping as many of you as I can. Plus ensuring I give you the best treatment possible. And add some new things into the mix!

Being able to help any client even slightly is something I am forever grateful for. Whether that is from body work, getting people to be more curious about their bodies, yoga, educating, helping relieve pain or simply from having a conversation. It all matters.

Body work is one of the most beneficial things you can do for yourself. I had the deeply enjoyable experience of leading a Bespoke workshop at Sandvik NI for Men’s Health Week a few weeks ago where we used the sessions to help re-regulate the nervous system. Using breath work to understand the breath and to check for patterns of dysfunctional breathing. Yes we all breath of course but how we breath can impact so many of our bodily systems. Practising breath-work can help calm you and bring your body back into its parasympathetic state.

Take this as your chance to pause, focus on your breathing and where you find it. Is it shallow? Is it fast? Are you breathing into the chest? Is it calm? Can you lengthen your exhale? Get into your body and get curious.

ONCOLOGY MASSAGE

A few may not know I qualified 2 years ago in Oncology massage. For me It was a deeply personal course I wanted to do and grateful I had the opportunity to do it.

Oncology massage is a specialised form of massage therapy designed to safely and compassionately address the unique needs of individuals living with cancer. As with all massage sessions I do, an oncology massage will look different for each person. It is client specific and customised to meet the unique and changing needs of someone in treatment for cancer or with a history of cancer treatment.

It focuses on providing relaxation, comfort, and relief from the side effects of cancer and its treatments aiming to boost and revitalise the body and mind. It can be great used prior to treatment days to boost the immune system.

Treatment times vary and is dependent on individuals needs. Curating a treatment plan to best suit the needs of the client.
