📱What happens when you phone 111 in Scotland?

The first person you’ll speak to when you phone 111 will be a call handler. They’ll ask you:
🔹who you are
🔹where you’re phoning from
🔹why you’re phoning

We need to know as much about you and your health as possible to offer you the best help and advice. If you’re phoning on behalf of someone else, make sure you’re with them at the time of the call.

You’ll be assessed by our triage team and referred to your local NHS services if needed. This may involve a phone or video consultation with a clinician from your local health board or an appointment to attend A&E or Minor Injuries Unit.

During normal working hours always contact your own GP for urgent advice and treatment. The 111 service cannot arrange appointments at your GP.

PUBLIC HOLIDAY - MONDAY 26 MAY

The Surgery will be closed for the Spring public holiday on Monday 26th May. Please make sure you collect any medication required prior to 1pm on Friday 23rd May.

To access urgent medical care overnight, at weekends or on public holidays:

In a life threatening medical emergency (e.g. chest pain, severe shortness of breath, a major accident or trauma, symptoms of a stroke) you should call 999.

If you have a non life-threatening but urgent medical problem you can access medical advice by visiting www.nhsinform.scot. If you feel you need to speak with or see a nurse or doctor regarding an urgent medical problem, you should call NHS24 on 111.

The Emergency Department is located within Islay Hospital in Bowmore. Whilst you are free to attend without first seeking advice, if you are able to access care by the routes above it will allow us to prioritise the use of limited space within the Hospital building.

PATIENT TRAVEL SURVEY

Throughout May, Islay charity Islay Connections, the Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership, the Islay Dental Practice, the Islay Medical Practice, The Jura Medical Practice and Islay Hospital will be running a patient travel survey to gather information about the journeys that island residents have to make for medical and dental care. We want to know about journeys on Islay itself as well as about journeys further afield from Islay on
the mainland.

We want to develop a comprehensive understanding of the way that current arrangements work to see if they can be improved and to explore whether new voluntary services, such as volunteer drivers and escorts, could be started.

To keep things simple we are using a single form to gather information about journeys both on and off Islay. Whether your journey is long or short, we want to understand as much as you can about each stage of your travel :

- what was easy
- what was difficult
- how the whole process could be improved.

The survey is anonymous. We ask for your age, s*x and the first 4 characters of your postcode so that we can see that we have a representative response from the community. We only want to know which postcode area you come from - we don’t want to know your name or your whole postcode.

PLEASE PICK UP A SURVEY FORM AT THE ISLAY DOCTORS’
SURGERIES, THE JURA SURGERY, THE ISLAY DENTAL SURGERY, OR
ISLAY HOSPITAL RECEPTION AND RETURN YOUR COMPLETED
SURVEY TO ONE OF THE COLLECTION BOXES AT WHICHEVER OF
THESE LOCATIONS IS CONVENIENT FOR YOU.

THANK YOU FOR TAKING PART IN THIS SURVEY
