I am closed for the bank holiday, return back to work on tuesday 26th August.

Some of you may know I have a new job so my appointment availability has changed. I'll be working mon-fri 3pm-7pm and Saturdays 10am-4pm this is all set up on my online booking app.

So unfortunately im unable to compete this year at British championships to keep my title. Due to car issues and it not being fixed in time. Gutted, yes but I will go back next year and reclaim it.

So today was an SBD day in the gym under comp spec to see what my total would be, and hoping to beat last year. Its different when in gym as I do thrive on the competition environment and comp adrenaline. But didnt have that today.

Last year my overall total for best sqaut, bench and deadlift combined was 407kg
(S: 157.5kg, B: 80kg, D:170kg)

Today my total was 422.5kg
S: 160kg⬆️2.5kg, B:85kg ⬆️5kg, D:177.5kg ⬆️ 7.5kg.
Totaling 15.5kg increase a cross all lifts.

Not been the best consistent training for me, due to obstacles getting in the way. But so happy how it went today PBS on all lifts.

I would like to thank Craig Orange - Strength Performance Fitness, Kerry Ann Gallagher Pete Smailes for the loading of plates, spotting and hyping for the lift.

Little training session today
Deadlifts at rpe 9.5 so not quite 1 rep max

175kg beautiful and felt glorious lovely smooth no ramping or hitching insight. Felt like a rpe of 9 so I thought I go little heavier so went for 177.5kg not as beautiful as little bit of knees coming forward, in powerlifting that lift would be red lighted in strongman though would still be given. So I'm still taking it as a positive. Coming to an end for powerlifting season for me for this year then going back in to strongman it's been about 3.5 years since done strongman training so looking forward to getting back to it and competing. Got my 👀 on couple comps. 💪 video is 177.5kgs

Good training session today

Sqauts 2 sets of 3 reps 130kg then final set of 5 reps at 130kg (total 11 reps) used small plates to stand on at the moment. With broken toe and bruised foot im unable to wear my lifters. So using g these plates will help me get in to position. They went better than I thought, also gives me time to practice self wrap.

Didn't take video of the set of 5 gutted 😔

My coach Craig Orange - Strength Performance Fitness is taking on new clients. This isn't the first time I have been with Craig over the years I have tried different coaches to help me get comp ready and this is my 3rd time back with Craig. Hes got alot of knowledge and experience. It dont matter if you want to compete, get stronger or just be fitter he will help you reach your goals.

Arching of back:

Why do powerlifters arch there back? We have a natural curve in our spine. Our backs are a gentle S shape so if you use your natural curve it actually stabilisers your back, protects spine, and muscles engage to keep spine safe.

As powerlifters were lifting maximal Strength for 1 rep max. Therefore we tend to create a triangle shape with body ie. traps down pushing onto bench, using natural curve in spine, glutes on bench, feet wide at sides, use legs to push through for lift. This gives us a stable and strong position for benching.

Now I'm not saying you can't lift heavy flat backed you can, but if you learn the positioning for powerlifting you would increase the weight lifted. Not only due to positioning but when powerlifting style used your creating a shorter distance for the bar and weight to travel so your lift is more efficient.

It basically comes down to two different sport disciplines. Flat back tends to be used for body building discipline as it helps to improve the aesthetics of the chest. Where as arch back is used in powerlifting, as its about lifting a maximal weight.

Training dump, been too busy to post anything last couple weeks. But here's some vids of last week's training.

7.5weeks to go till I compete. I wasn't going to compete this year to be honest. My training wasn't consistent my life was busy and just didn't have the focus. Then 3 weeks ago I thought let's do it. So got myself a coach so I can stay accountable and progress with more knowledge.

And after 3 weeks everything is clicking again and my strength is still there.
