What to Expect at your First Chiropractic Visit
Many people benefit from visiting a chiropractor, however that first visit can be daunting when you don't know what to expect. Our latest blog will walk you through what to expect at your first chiropractic visit. If you have any further questions please comment below, or message us directly to discuss.
Here we'll walk you through from booking to your first adjustment:
👉 Booking
After booking your first chiropractic visit either online (Booking - KH Chiropractic), by phone 01392 984959, or email info@khchiropractic.com you should receive a confirmation email with a new patient form to complete before your appointment. This form will ask for information on your complaint, past medical history, medications, lifestyle questions etc.
👉 Initial Consultation
At your first chiropractic visit, your chiropractor will go through your form, asking more detailed questions about your health history and complaint.
👉 Physical Exam
Next comes a physical assessment, including posture checks, muscle and reflex tests, orthopaedic tests, and gentle palpation to find any areas of tension or misalignment.
👉 The Adjustment
This is what some people feel nervous about if they haven't been adjusted before. Your Chiropractor will guide you through your recommended treatment (adjustments and soft tissue work), following an explanation of your complaint and checking you are happy to consent to treatment. Our Chiropractor usually positions their hands over the joint first, to demonstrate where the pressure will be applied, before checking you are happy to proceed once again. These chiropractic adjustments are aimed at encouraging movement into stiff joints. For some they hear a 'popping' sound while others may hear nothing. The key is to apply the impulse to the stiff joints which may not always result in an audible sound. It shouldn't be painful, although some people do feel a little tender post treatment especially after their first treatment.
👉 Post-Treatment Advice
After the adjustment, your chiropractor will give advice on stretching, posture, and daily habits to support better spinal health.
