Being a vet physio isn’t just physiotherapy.

It’s being the physio, the accountant, the social media manager, the friend, the therapist.
It’s reading research papers at midnight.
It’s driving home replaying sessions, wondering if you could have done more.
It’s the constant self-doubt.
It’s explaining your role to people who don’t quite get it.
It’s chasing endless CPD because you want to be better.
It’s showing up for a full day after losing a patient the day before.
It’s squeezing in reports during every spare minute… even on your “days off.”

It’s so much more than just treating your pet.

Some days are incredibly rewarding. Others are really tough. Lately, I’ve felt that more than ever—because I truly care about every single patient on my books.🤍

Easter. Chocolate Eggs & Hot Cross Buns. Pretty sure most know that Chocolate is bad for dogs. But did you know that raisins are toxic too?

🐶 🍇Raisins and grapes are highly toxic to dogs and can cause acute kidney failure. Even small amounts can be dangerous, and the toxic dose varies significantly between individual dogs. The exact substance causing toxicity remains unknown, making any consumption a potential emergency.

🐶🍫whereas with chocolate, we know why and what the toxic dose is…we know that dark chocolate, coco powder, & cooking chocolate are the most toxic.

If you find your dog has snaffled your Easter Eggs, or stolen your nice buttery Hot Cross Bun - what should you do?!

1. Look at the clock. What time do you think it was eaten?
2. Phone 01453 799966 for advice.
3. Be ready for some questions. The Vet will want to know roughly how much of what, was consumed, how long ago and what age, weight or breed is your dog.
4.Follow the advice given - you may need to do nothing, or you may need to bring your dog to the Vets to be made to vomit. Fatalities are rare, but some dogs do need hospital treatment.
5. Once it’s all over, vow to only buy Easter Eggs & Hot Cross Buns for yourself and eat them in the car.
Well, you’re keeping your dog safe, right?!😜

When your body truly relaxes, your nervous system shifts out of “fight or flight” and into a healing state. Muscles soften, breathing slows, circulation improves, and pain signals quieten. This is where hands-on treatment becomes more effective and longer-lasting.

In physiotherapy and massage, deep relaxation allows:
• Reduced muscle guarding and tension
• Improved mobility and flexibility
• Better response to manual techniques
• Decreased stress and pain sensitivity
• Faster recovery and improved sleep

Healing happens when the body is supported, not rushed.

Top Tips for Caring for Arthritic Dogs During the Colder Months ❄️🐾

❄️ Keep them warm
Lower temperatures cause blood vessels to constrict, reducing blood flow and circulation to the joints, increasing stiffness and discomfort. Consider using a well-fitting coat and provide soft, supportive beds positioned in warmer areas of the house.

❄️ Dry them thoroughly
Wet fur increases heat loss and can worsen joint stiffness and pain sensitivity. Always dry your dog well after walks or time outdoors.

❄️ Adapt exercise when conditions are poor
If it’s too cold, there’s a risk of slipping, or your dog is reluctant to walk, consider enrichment activities instead. There are many at-home games that promote gentle joint range of motion while also providing mental stimulation.

❄️ Monitor clinical signs closely
Cold weather can worsen pain and reduce mobility. Keep an eye on any changes and act early with a consistent, multimodal management plan.

Stay safe and have fun!! ❄️ ⛄️
