Do a few stretches before and after doing the gardening. Stretches will lengthen tight muscles, improve circulation, and reduce the build-up of waste products which give you those aching muscles the next day.
Plan your workload โ€“ do not try to do the whole vegetable patch in one morning. It may be mentally satisfying, but your neck, back and muscles will find it very strenuous.
You might have several tasks on the go at the same time, but make sure you only work a little on each one every time you go into the garden.
Pruning: use two hands for tough pruning or try alternating between using your left and right hand (this is also good for your brain).
Consider your equipment โ€“ if you have a problem with your hips, knees, or your back, consider using long-handled tools. The use of a kneeler will also help to reduce the pressure through your knees and prevent you stooping over the flower bed.
