Massage and reflexology are natural ways of supporting our health and well-being.

So summer 2024…
Looking back over my infrequent posts I realised how much the garden, so much a part of my treatment and philosophy, has matured. It was empty when I first moved here December 2019 just prior to covid. Now it is quite wild and rather unkempt- nature taking hold and it’s starting to take shape. The perimeter has dog roses, ivy, elder flowers, buddleia, ceanothus, a miniature larch, willows and hazel….giving a sense of enclosure, protection and privacy. The wild life pond an addition last year quickly looked established. The garden with its back drop of sycamores, scots pine, hornbeam and larch, thanks to the nature reserve, creates a perfect setting for natural therapies in a natural setting.
Treatments take the form of various combinations of massage, reflexology, crystals, meditation and reiki.
The cabin in the garden and it’s surroundings set the tone for the treatment- rarely do I need to play music to accompany the session.
Nature balances, calms, stabilises, changes our physiology and recharges our batteries…

I have enjoyed this summer cultivating a wild garden…loving the pathway up to the cabin through the annual cornflowers.

Reflexology- a natural based therapy.
It is believed that there are points on the feet that correspond to organs, systems and structures within the entire body. This corresponding relationship is called a reflex-
By using pressure techniques to stimulate points on the feet, imbalances in tissues, organs and systems of the body can be treated to restore balance and wellbeing.
This is a complementary therapy- it ’complements’ western, orthodox medicine.
It can be described as an energy medicine, based on the theory that we have an alternative’energy’ system in our bodies. The energy flows along meridians through out us. It is based in eastern philosophy, an interesting approach to the care of your own health and well being.

Love this tree. It’s rather elderly.
And it’s large boughs are reaching down to the ground propping itself up…

Went out for a walk yesterday evening and saw this deer, between Barmston Drain and TopHill Low. It saw us too! But as we stood very still and watched it, it came towards us, so Leigh got some nice photos. Before it decided to beat a hasty retreat..
But the experience made for a perfect evening..

In 1986 I qualified as an Occupational Therapist; the training gave me a good grounding in anatomy, physiology, physical and psychiatric conditions. I worked for a number of years in a clinical setting, with people suffering from a range of medical conditions and severe disabilities. After 10 years in this area I took a career break and began to read widely regarding dis-ease and stress. I became increasingly interested in natural ways of supporting health and wellbeing which take a holistic account of us as- mind, body and spirit. Since 2003 I have completed courses in massage, reflexology and reiki and began working privately as a natural health therapist.
My experience as a therapist is varied. I have completed additional training to provide treatments that are adapted for pregnancy, life limiting illness and reflexology for conception. I have worked clinically as a volunteer therapist in a hospice environment, and with the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Motor Neurone Disease Association. I have a particular interest in working with stress related conditions, as natural therapies are an antidote to stress and are of vital importance in nurturing our minds and bodies. They can counteract the effects of a stressful lifestyle, which depresses the immune system and lowers our ability to fight infection. They promote the relaxation response and in so doing support our immune system, detoxification, digestion, circulation and respiration. They are meditative, enabling us to slow down and reconnect to our inner selves, improving our mental as well as our physical health. They encourage the body to intuitively find balance, restoration, nourishment and vitality. They facilitate a greater sense of wellbeing and quality of life.
Natural therapies are preventative medicine, they encourage us to become aware of different ways, philosophies and modalities of facilitating and maintaining our health through the mind and body.
