1. Control Blood Sugar: Keeping glucose levels within target range helps prevent nerve and vessel damage. Regular monitoring is key.

2. Daily Foot Checks: Look for cuts, blisters, swelling, or nail issues. Reduced sensation means you might not feel injuries—visual checks are vital.

3. Hygiene Matters: Wash feet daily in lukewarm water with mild soap. Dry thoroughly, especially between toes. Moisturise to prevent cracking—avoid between toes. Don’t soak feet.

Foot Fact Friday: Did you know that children's feet grow at an astonishing rate of 1-1.5mm every month?

With back-to-school shopping in full swing, it's crucial to know that your child likely needs a new shoe size! Most children grow by half a shoe size every 3-4 months, meaning those shoes you bought at the start of summer may already be too small for the autumn term.

At All Toe-gether Podiatry, we recommend measuring your child's feet before purchasing new school shoes. Remember to allow approximately 1-1.5cm of space from the longest toe to the front of the shoe – about the width of your thumb when pressing down at the front of the shoe.

Signs that your child's current shoes are too small include visible toe bumps at the front, difficulty lifting their heel while wearing the shoe, or complaints of discomfort (though many children won't mention this!).

Proper fitting school shoes aren't just about comfort – they're essential for healthy foot development and preventing posture problems later in life.
