Our latest bit of tech in the performance centre is the VALD force frames. And today I’m going to show you one of the ways we can use them and make strength training more fun.
These are also great for analysing left vs right strength numbers in your body. So we can test, do an intervention and then retest.
Few months ago I had a look at my hamstrings which I know since my ACL surgery 7 years ago my left was 30% weaker than my right 😱. (To which my PT was asking how the hell have I fought and trained multiple times, with such a massive discrepancy 🤷🏽♀️). Important to note I did have a hamstring graft in my op so there is some tendon that was physically cut out also.
Body is an incredibly adaptable machine I guess 😅 💁♀️.
But equally it’s not doing me any favours, I know it’s weaker. I get increasingly tight calves and Achilles on the left side, as a compensation to it not doing its job. If I work my hamstrings hard i notice behind my knee feels like it wants to snap off the next day 😭. So now more than ever is the time to sort this!
Using the training mode I can ‘gamify’ my hamstring training, which using the ‘bridge’ movement, I hold a contraction for a certain amount of time. In this case, I did 5s on and 5s off 5x. I can increase this duration and rest period over time. This is on top of me doing my normal strength training.
But as I improve I can up the numbers of intensity of where I need to hit until it’s equal with my right.
So if you want to know your numbers, stop guessing and come get tested. Don’t think it might go away, because, quite frankly doing nothing is why nothing has changed.
Maybe even come do some structured strength training with us?
