♿ Accessibility matters - and when it’s done right, it changes everything ♿
As many of you know, I’m a keen advocate for wheelchair accessibility. As Client Ambassador for PA Services for You, I speak up about this because accessibility is what allows me to live my life to the full.
My trip to The 02 - Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball 🎶
I went to the Capital Jingle Bell Ball, and honestly, the accessibility was brilliant.
I was seated right at the front and had a clear view of everything. The staff were amazing - attentive, helpful and genuinely supportive throughout the night.
This year’s lineup included Tinie Tempah and Jessie J, which I loved, and the light show was absolutely on point.
🚗 Parking deserves a special mention
The parking was spot on. The stewards were really helpful, I was able to park easily, and once parked we were straight in - no stress, no confusion.
That said, this experience was a world away from my last visit five years ago, which was honestly rubbish. Back then, we didn’t know where to go when we arrived, although once inside things improved.
One ongoing frustration for me has been access to a second carer ticket. I’ve struggled with this for years. For some reason, the Summertime Ball is easy, but the Jingle Bell Ball has been much harder when it comes to booking carer tickets.
I also have to use a Nimbus Card, which acts like a disabled passport - but in reality, I find it really limiting. Not being able to book online makes things harder and can stop me from going where I want to go.
So while there’s still work to do, credit where it’s due - this year The O2 showed just how good accessibility can be when it’s taken seriously.
Accessibility isn’t a bonus.
It’s the difference between being included, or left out.
