History of First Aid
In our modern Western world we have the luxury of benefiting from an advanced multi-tiered medical system. We can feel safe in the knowledge that, should we become injured or ill, we have immediate access to the best care currently imaginable. But this has not always been the case. It was not so far distant from today that medical care, of any kind, was limited, and often brutal; and First Aid, as we think of it now, was pretty much the only aid you were likely to get. Which is why, to this day, it remains a respected and vital first step in the treatment of the (suddenly) ill and injured.
In this series of posts we will explore the rich history of First Aid, from its ancient and primitive beginnings, to today’s vital role in pre-hospital care, from the battlefield to the workplace.
