𝟰-𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙠𝙨 𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙢𝙮 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝟰 𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙄𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙮 𝙢𝙖𝙙𝙚!
1) Not prepping meals
I wish I had prepped my meals before surgery instead of trying (and failing) to cook one-handed the next day. Why on earth didn’t I do it sooner?! Plan ahead to make those first recovery days smoother and to keep your nutrition on track when you need it most!
2) Not having pain-relief
Don’t be like me and assume you’ll be sent home with pain relief; I wasn’t, and the pharmacy was closed until the next morning. That first night was pretty rough - have some at home just in case!
3) Overdoing it
I tried to jump back into normal life way too soon. I thought I could handle odd jobs round the house, but my body quickly reminded me it wasn’t ready and just made my pain worse. Rest isn’t being lazy - it’s an important early part of healing. Give yourself permission to slow down.
4) Not having savings
I always heard the cliché of having three months’ wages saved ‘just in case,’ but never thought I’d actually be in a position where I couldn’t work. Just like breakdown cover or home insurance - you don’t need it until you really need it. Definitely something I’ll be prioritising once I’m back at work!
Share with someone awaiting surgery so they don’t make the same mistakes as me! 🤦🏼♂️
