An amazing display of handmade poppies, cascading down the front of the old Chapel in Etruria. All credit to celebrant Kate Moran and the ladies who used their crochet and knitting skills to produce this display

Recent findings show that there are 10.2 million pet dogs in the UK, and at Birches we know what an important part of the family pets are. Dogs can provide many benefits from companionship and love to a reason to exercise, a cuddle with them can even lower blood pressure. That is why we are proud to say that we welcome dogs on our site and even in our services if it aligns with the families wishes.

You are welcome to walk you four legged friends around our 6 acres of memorial gardens any day of the week. We just ask that you keep them on a lead as we have livestock in neighbouring fields, and that you pick up after them.

With the changing seasons come the changing colours in the garden and the shifting patterns of the wildlife that call Birches home.

The trees take on coppery tones, berries ripen and the meadow seems to stand still. The bird song quietens as our residents head off for warmer shores.

It's around this time the gardeners will begin to plan next years work, deciding which plants, trees and bulbs to order and where to focus next years energy. This is all done with an overarching focus on the health of the environment and biodiversity. When things are in balance in a garden the management of pests and disease is greatly reduced.

Some of the ways we do this and that you can utilize in your own garden are as follows.

Identify areas you could leave a little "wild" we use the backs of the borders as well as leaving plants standing over winter and building log piles or other over wintering habitats nestled in the garden beds.

Feeding birds over winter which will support local populations who will hopefully repay the favour by eating garden pests the following years

Repairing and replanting any gaps in the hedgerows, or even planting a few new native trees!

Mulching all fallen leaves. We also leave any leaves that are not on paths or lawns to rot down naturally where they fall.

A softly-spoken heckler was removed from the auditorium hosting Suella Bravmerman's speech at the Conservative Party Conference, despite causing next-to-no disruption.
