Last week I received a booking from a new client for a massage after my name had been recommended several times, which was lovely to see. A few hours later the appointment was cancelled. When I reached out to ask if they would like to rebook at a more convenient time, I was told they didn’t feel comfortable having a male therapist.
Normally I wouldn’t respond to something like this, as everyone is absolutely entitled to their personal preferences and I would never question anyone’s reasons. However, after 26 years in the industry, it did make me pause and reflect, as it was the first time I personally felt judged because of my gender.
That said, I always believe in turning a negative into a positive. The appointment didn’t go to waste and was quickly snapped up by Sue, who enjoyed the treatment instead.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support my work and recommendations it truly means a lot.

First of all welcome to my face book business page, I'm Dan your therapist. I have always been fascinated with the world of beauty, its vibrance, creativity and purpose to change a person. This can be either physically or emotionally. Everyone feels a million dollars when you look perfect and the power of human touch enables this.
So let me begin my journey of “Beauty”. The industry flows through my veins as I was born into a salon. My grandmother was a hairdresser and my mother too. As a child I would sit on the salon floor playing with building bricks while the local older ladies would be sat under the hud dryers with the rollers in. The smell of Perm solution is forever edged on my memory, I had no desire to be a hairdresser, although it would have been my grandmothers pleasure if I had, I felt that I needed to be part of it in some way. There was another area that took my liking, beauty therapy. From an early age I always had a keen eye for glamour and beauty and glamour go hand in hand. From the age of sixteen I enrolled on the path of beauty. I am quite a spiritual person and holistic therapies was a major key for my growth to become a therapist. Completing 2 years of that, my tutors praised my achievement and stared me in the direction of beauty therapy. My claim to fame from this point was being Liverpool's first male beauty therapist. The beauty industry is mainly a predominant female industry and at a time not the usual male career. From this my goals have been too encourage this growth, that men can also be beauty therapists too.
When completing beauty after another 2 years I found I had great passion for skin, all things skin. Throughout the years I have completed many courses with #dermalogica enabling to gain more education on skin anatomy and physiology. How to help people overcome skin concerns and issues.
Working in the industry was fun meeting royalty and celebrities but the universe brought me back to education where I became a lecturer and tutor in the original college I trained.
2012 was a big decision to return back to the beauty industry with my own buissness set up in Crewe, Cheshire. Leaving Liverpool to start something new and Vanity Case Beauty formed.
Hollywood movie stars of the golden age have always been my muse, I have sat and stared at the many faces of the most beautiful woman the world had produced, every one with unique and captivating look.. As every one will know, eyebrow shaping is my forte I get my inspiration producing perfect eyebrows from the old stars. I created a service called the “Wow Brow” because I wanted to be known by a sort of brand people could easily relate me too, thus why I called it the wow brow. So I have the name, now I need the wow factor. A difference in service compared to what you would get in another salon is a vital key, I conventionally tint the both brow hair and lashes, then wax the area using high grade warm wax to minimise reddens, I then created a method called micro tweezing, this involves a fast action motion of removing the hair from the skin with less discomfort compared to threading and the friction it causes (lets be honest, that kills) the method also allows precise removal of hair resulting in perfect alignment for the brow. People say brows should be sisters not twins, well in my world I make twins. another wow factor is the price you get all that for £10, yes £10!. You wont get this type of serve at that price with the level of quality any where else.
In 2017 I won the hearts of the nation by being a contestant on ITVbe’S #Spawars. This was the perfect opportunity to showcase my services and character on T.V. Throughout the week of filming was challenging at some points, I my self had the ability to assess myself and what others perceived of me. I am very grateful of that experience that as a result enabled me to win the episode. I had such great feedback in the form of private messages from the public and even people off the street wanting to talk to me.
