⭐️ Teaching Points ⭐️

🌱 Ethics are what you do when no one is watching.

In the world of massage therapy, that means:

✨ Cleaning your couch thoroughly, even at the end of a long day.
✨ Keeping every client’s story private, even in casual conversation.
✨ Refusing to treat when it isn’t safe — even if it means turning someone away.

True professionalism isn’t about who’s watching — it’s about integrity, care, and respect for every person who trusts you with their wellbeing. 💚

Natural Facelift Facial Massage Course
📆22nd - 23rd November 2025
📍Church Street Wellness, Crewkerne, Somerset

Small class size for individual coaching

One of my favourite treatments to give and I am delighted to be offering training in the Natural Facelift Facial Massage. This course is perfect for qualified therapists who would like to expand their skills and offer a deeply rejuvenating treatment that clients love to return for. By learning these techniques, you can add a unique and highly effective therapy to your practice, helping clients look refreshed and feel rebalanced in a completely natural way.

The Natural Facelift Massage itself is a gentle yet powerful treatment created to refresh the face, calm the mind and support the whole body. Unlike a standard facial in a beauty salon, it does not involve cleansing products, exfoliation or masks. Instead, it is a therapeutic massage of the face, using a carefully crafted sequence of techniques drawn from traditional Japanese and Indian methods, combined with elements of acupressure and facial reflexology.

The Japanese influence focuses on stimulating the facial meridians, balancing the flow of energy throughout the body. Pressure points, known as Anma, are used to support the organs and encourage natural healing. From the Indian tradition of Ayurveda, the massage includes flowing, restorative techniques that nurture both skin and spirit.

This holistic approach improves circulation, encourages lymphatic drainage and releases long-held tension, leaving clients with a brighter, more youthful complexion and a deep sense of wellbeing.

✨ Introducing Sana Wellness & Training ✨

I’m excited to share that Mind & Body Health is now Sana Wellness & Training.

Why the change? Over the last few years my work has grown. I now support clients through treatments and also train and mentor other therapists. I wanted a name that reflects this wider vision and brings both aspects together under one umbrella as the business continues to grow.

The word “Sana” comes from Latin, meaning to heal or to make whole. It also appears in the phrase “mens sana in corpore sano” which means a healthy mind in a healthy body. This feels like the perfect expression of what I aim to bring through both my treatments and training: balance, wellbeing, and growth.

✨ What this means for you
• My treatments and clinic continue as before, with the same care and the same space, just with a refreshed name.
• I am expanding into professional training, helping therapists develop new skills and techniques.
• Both therapy and training now sit together under one identity, offering a complete approach to wellness and professional growth.

Finally, my new branding colours were chosen with care. They are designed to feel wholesome, calming and welcoming, reflecting the safe and supportive environment I want every client and student to experience.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me. I look forward to welcoming you into this new chapter. 🌿

✨Teaching Points ✨

When I welcome a client into my space, I like to give them a little time to sit and settle before climbing onto the couch.
Often they arrive straight from a busy day and need a few quiet moments for their mind and body to slow down.

I find that this pause helps them get so much more than just the physical benefit of the treatment. For me, the short chat before we begin is just as important as the treatment itself. It gives the client a chance to tell me how they are, what has been happening since their last visit, or, if they are new, why they have chosen to come.

Making space for this conversation shows the client they are not just another booking to get through, but someone who is valued and cared for.

If you would like to start learning more with me, why not pop me a message and I will sign up for news on new courses coming up as well as useful information to all you therapists out there.

Well, this is very interesting information 😊

Well, this is very interesting information 😊

The debate always seems to be gentle therapy or deep tissue treatments. Certainly the EMMETT technique can be classed as gentle and can be such a surprise for many new clients when finger tip touch can bring such quick results.

There are scientific studies and neuroscience-based insights that support the idea that gentle touch can be more effective—or at least more appropriate—than deep pressure, particularly in contexts like chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and nervous system regulation. Here are some key references and concepts to back this up:

🧠 1.
Gate Control Theory of Pain

Melzack & Wall (1965)
This foundational theory explains that non-painful input (like soft touch) can “close the gate” to painful input in the spinal cord, blocking pain sensations from reaching the brain.
Deep pressure can sometimes stimulate nociceptors (pain receptors), opening the gate instead.

Melzack, R., & Wall, P. D. (1965). Pain mechanisms: a new theory. Science, 150(3699), 971–979.

🌿 2.
C-Tactile (CT) Afferents – Nerves That Respond to Gentle Touch
Studies have identified a type of nerve fiber—C-tactile afferents—that responds specifically to slow, gentle, pleasant touch and sends soothing signals to the brain. These signals help regulate the emotional and pain-processing areas of the brain.

DOI: 10.1038/nn.2312

💥 3.
Central Sensitization in Chronic Pain
In conditions like fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome, the nervous system is sensitized and overreacts to pressure. Deep pressure may worsen symptoms, while gentle, non-threatening input can help regulate and calm the system.

DOI: 10.2174/157339707781386194

🧘 4.
Touch and the Parasympathetic Nervous System
Gentle touch has been shown to stimulate the parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) system, which helps the body calm down, reduce pain, and enter healing states.

DOI: 10.1016/j.dr.2011.01.001

🧩 Summary
Gentle touch communicates safety and comfort to the nervous system.
It’s more suitable for pain-sensitive or trauma-affected bodies.
It’s backed by both neuroscience and clinical research.

Holistic Massage in Crewkerne

My name is Puk Johansen and I live with my family in Crewkerne. I am fully qualified ITEC Level 3 Massage Therapist. I offer a range of holistic massage treatments from my home. My treatments are based on the individual client to ensure full relaxation and therapeutic result.

In 2006 I was diagnosed with Lymphoedema after surgery and treatment for breast cancer. Learning to live with the complications of Lymphoedema made me explore available treatment and how I can help other people in my situation. The Manual Lymph Draining Massage can only be carried out by fully qualified massage therapists, which lead me to completing the ITEC Level 3 training and I found a real passion for it. I now offer a number of other diploma treatments such as Indian Head Massage, Natural Face Lift Massage and Myofascial Release.

It gives me such pleasure to provide a very holistic and personal treatment to every client. If you have any questions about any of the treatments I offer, please get in touch.
